Jujutsu Kaisen has been one of the best anime of 2023. The story took a turn after season one, with the focus shifting towards Satoru Gojo’s past. It had a light-hearted start, but as it progressed, it took a dark turn. Then came the Shibuya Incident arc. This arc has plot twists at every corner, and Gege Akutami has given a lot of their time in developing this arc.
But even when there are so many expectations and anticipation from the ongoing arc, there problem with MAPPA Studios seems to magnify with each step. They are already branded to be a studio that takes more projects than they can deliver, but now, one of the animators of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 17 released a statement on how it was released forcibly before it was fully ready.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 17 Was Released Prematurely
Due to the ongoing issues with MAPPA Studios, the sufferings of one of the most anticipated anime of 2023 seem to magnify with each episode. Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 17 received praise for its story and animations, but the animators confirmed that it was released prematurely and was not completed. The latest episode was only 30% complete, which is less than half.
I worked on episode #37 of JJK2 as an animation director/sakkan!

I corrected 13 cuts of animation for episode 37, on top of doing 2 cuts of emergency sakkan, and 6 cuts of nigenga action animation in the climax! #呪術廻戦📷📷 #JujutsuKaisen pic.twitter.com/IrSBHjneuU

Previously, there were a couple of episodes that were not satisfactory, and the fans expressed their anguish over it. But Roccia Nobili, who is an animation director of the latest Jujutsu Kaisen episode, said, “I am so frustrated over it. I wish there was more time to finish more scenes… as it stands right now, there are too many errors for me to find any enjoyment in the episode.”
MAPPA policy of forcibly working the animators has been the taking point of everyone. But even among such negativity, Roccia Nobili did not forget to show their gratitude to the fans who loved the latest episode even at less than half percent completion.
Issues Surrounding MAPPA Seems To Escalate
It is not only Roccia Nobili who expressed their dissatisfaction. Several others joined her. One of the key animators of multiple Jujutsu Kaisen episodes, Sota Shigetsugu, mentioned how the studio thinks that it is normal to make people work under difficult and tight situations and achieve the target that would have been impossible to attain in the first place. After making their life hard, the creators think that it can be done and it is not that bad.
While some are directly criticizing MAPPA, others are grateful to the animators who are giving their best even under such a stressful environment. The fans have been always faithful to the animators, and they have been applauding their efforts throughout. Even though MAPPA overworking the animators is nothing new, it is the fans who have been motivating them to keep working.
Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 17 was pretty well-received by the audience, but it was only 30% completed. So, it shows how well the animators can do if they finish it at 100%. It will be the fans that ultimately suffer if the issue keeps on escalating. It might even cause the most interesting arc of Jujutsu Kaisen to come to an abrupt end. But for the moment, it is available on Crunchyroll, and people can enjoy it to the fullest.
