Unlike animation, where Sony has been pumping out some of the best superhero flicks, their attempt at crafting the live-action cinematic universe surrounding Spider-Man villains hasn’t quite worked out. From two mediocre Venom releases to Morbius, which was blasted by the internet, Sony hasn’t quite flourished in the live-action landscape as it did with two Spider-Verse releases.
Although things are looking bright on the animation side with fans engrossed in the highly-anticipated threequel, Sony’s live-action universe takes another major blow, which left fans disappointed.
Sony’s El Muerto suffers another big blow
Among the plethora of projects on Sony’s slate, which are set to shape their live-action cinematic universe revolving around Spider-Man villains, El Muerto was the most confusing one. But one of the things that left people excited about the obscure character was the casting of Bad Bunny, who was set to lead the project, which was slated for a release in early January 2024. But alongside the project losing its initial release date, reports are claiming that Bad Bunny has also departed from the film.
Although the report is yet to be confirmed, it’s reasonable to see why this might end up being the case. Considering Bad Bunny is an extremely busy individual as a result of being one of the most celebrated musicians and his commitments to WWE, is possible that the delay in the production might’ve led to his reported exit.
Fans are left disappointed by his reported exit
Keeping in mind that Bad Bunny was the main attraction for Sony’s upcoming live-action adaptation based on the obscure character, his reported exit has been a major turnoff for the film. Although it seems Sony is still moving forward with the project and is reportedly eying toward a recast, fans are not enthralled by the news. Expressing their viewpoint on the matter through Twitter, many fans have been pretty vocal in sharing their differences with Sony’s reported way of tackling the issue.
Just cancel this and add Morbius to Beyond the Spider-Verse and call it a day

The El Muerto movie is going to be scrapped. The only way this movie was going to be made was with someone with the star power like Bad Bunny.

Bruh… I thought the ONLY purpose for this film was to cash in on Bad Bunny’s popularity, because El Muerto was only in *2 issues* of the comics before this was greenlit so they weren’t banking on the character’s popularity or having any fans 🤷🏽♂️

Although it can’t be exactly said whether the reports surrounding Bad Bunny’s exit from the film are true or not, it’s evident that it might still be a while before Song cracks the formula in the live-action realm. But it’s not all gloomy for Spider-Man fans, as Sony keeps on winning in the animation department with the Spider-Verse movies. And with many excited for Beyond the Spider-verse, fans believe this might be able to cement themselves as one of the best trilogies to come out of this genre.
