Hollywood director Woody Allen is creating headlines as he recently appeared at the Venice Film Festival for the world premiere of his upcoming 2023 French thriller directorial Coup de chance. In 1992, his daughter Dylan Farrow, whom he adopted with his former partner Mia Farrow, alleged that he had s**ually assaulted her, but he had repeatedly denied these claims over the years.

While these allegations have tarnished his reputation in the industry, Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson had previously defended him, saying, “I believe him.” During his recent media interaction, the award-winning director claimed he would consider making a new film in New York if the production house would finance his movie and obey his “terrible restrictions.” Then, he would like to direct another project.

During his recent media interaction, director Woody Allen opened up about his upcoming movie Coup de chance. When asked if the director would like to direct another film in New York, the 87-year-old filmmaker replied that he had some intriguing ideas but would only make the movie under one condition. He said if someone would finance his film in New York without asking him questions, not reading the script, and obeying his rules, there is a possibility he would consider developing another flick.

The director said,

“I have very good ideas in New York. If some guy steps out of the shadows and says, ‘We’ll finance your film in New York,’ and obey[s] all my terrible restrictions — they can’t read the script, they can’t know who’s in it, they just give me their money and go away. If some foolish person agrees to that, then I will make the film in New York.”

After the shocking allegations his daughter made previously, many actors detested working with him in the industry. These claims heavily impacted his career. However, he has not stopped creating movies, and his latest French-language thriller marks his 50th directorial.

Woody Allen faced heavy backlash after his daughter alleged that he had s–ually assaulted her in her childhood. However, Scarlett Johansson has previously defended him. In an interview with THR, Johansson stated,

“I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him any time. I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it (the allegations against him). I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.”

She continued,

“It’s hard because it’s a time where people are very fired up, and understandably. Things needed to be stirred up, and so people have a lot of passion and a lot of strong feelings and are angry, rightfully so. It’s an intense time.”

In a previous interview with Vanity Fair, the actress was asked if she is aware that many people may misinterpret her remarks and her support for Allen. She replied,

“Yeah, I do understand how that is triggering for some people. But just because I believe my friend does not mean that I don’t support women, believe women. I think you have to take it on a case-by-case basis. You can’t have this blanket statement—I don’t believe that. But that’s my personal belief. That’s how I feel.”

Scarlett Johansson had worked with Woody Allen in several of his directorials, Match Point (2005), Scoop (2006), and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008).
