In an interview, Director Sami Antero Järvi also known as Sam Lake, the creative mind behind many of Remedy’s titles, discussed the possibility of the Remedy Connected Universe and the studio’s shift towards open-world gaming.

When asked about the possibility of adding elements from Max Payne or Quantum Break into the Alan Wake universe, Lake simply responded:

Well, it’s a really simple division. The Remedy Connected Universe includes the titles that we own. So, Control and Alan Wake. Of our past games, Quantum Break was from the get-go since it was created for Microsoft and they own it, and Max Payne, after the first game, we sold the IP to Take-Two and Rockstar, so we don’t own that either.

This answer highlights the complexity of game development, where legal agreements and ownership rights often dictate creative decisions. While fans want many universes to collaborate or want to see their favorite characters interact with each other, it is very difficult in the reality of corporate partnerships.

Microsoft holds the right to Quantum break and they sold the rights of Max Payne IP to Take-Two and Rockstar.

As Lake explained, Microsoft holds the right to Quantum break and they sold the rights of Max Payne IP to Take-Two and Rockstar. Without the necessary permissions, any attempt to collaborate would be legally unthinkable.

As the gaming industry continues to evolve, collaborations and crossovers between franchises remain a promising prospect. However, such endeavors require various negotiation and alignment of interests.
