While it’s true that Tom Hardy has immense respect for his old pal, Michael Fassbender, the two are known for rubbing elbows with each other. The two actors went together to the prestigious acting school, Drama Centre London, and forged their craft together.

Tom Hardy explained:

“Mikey Fassbender, he was in the third year, and he was, like, the s**t. And he was in this wheelchair, ’cause his character is in a wheelchair. We had, like, half an hour for lunch, a half an hour to feed the whole school.

We had this little canteen, Barbara’s canteen, and Mikey would be holding up the whole queue ’cause he wouldn’t get out of his f**king wheelchair. That’s the kind of school I went to.

When Hardy asked his pal, Mikey to “stand the f*ck up and order lunch” so they could go back to school and not get thrown out at the end of the week, Fassbender straightaway said, ‘F**k you!’ to Hardy and his classmate.

Tom Hardy Is Michael Fassbender’s Biggest Critic & Admirer

Michael Fassbender has mostly remained confused about Hardy’s mixed feelings about his pal. While calling the X-Men: First Class actor a real deal back in school, Hardy has often revealed the actor’s annoying side, for instance, taking method acting out of the theatre.

That’s the case of two successful actors, who started their careers together after landing roles in Band of Brothers (2001), Hardy expressed that he has immense respect for Fassbender, and also referred to him as  “the best actor in the school”. Hardy also said back then:

“I’ve got mad respect for him. I’d love to go up against him on stage.”

It was during Fassbender’s wheelchair stunt that Hardy asked him to quit method acting for taking it outside the theatre. The actor was keeping his pal hungry, just to stay in character. As for their time, at the drama school, Hardy once expressed how the film school brought the best out of the two actors:

“Have you seen that movie Whiplash? I went to a school like that. You know, a drama school very similar to that. And the guy that trained me, they based Hannibal Lecter on him.

His pursuit was just to f***ing destroy us. He wanted us to achieve excellence, and I think all of us failed to impress him, to be fair.”

The riveting war drama, Band of Brothers, produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, not only served as a springboard for both, Hardy and Fassbender but also for many successful British stars like James McAvoy and Simon Pegg.
