Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer was one of the most-anticipated movies of this year, not to mention the star-studded cast of the likes of Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. made it even more appealing to the masses. It was a massive box-office hit, though it did not emerge as the highest-rated film on IMDb.
It’s no surprise that Marvel films have dominated the big screen for the past few years, and they continue to conquer the hearts of viewers even after the grand finale of the original Avengers saga.
Oppenheimer Failed To Score The Highest Rating On IMDb
While ratings do not necessarily define the quality of a movie, they serve as a basis for the public’s opinion and reaction toward a particular work of cinema. This year, IMDb records Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse as the highest-rated film of 2023 with an 8.7 score.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Takashi Yamazaki’s Godzilla Minus One trail behind the Marvel animated movie, garnering the second and third spots, respectively. Surprisingly, Margot Robbie’s blockbuster hit Barbie did not make it to the top ten.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse followed Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy thrown into the Spider-Verse, meeting Oscar Isaac’s Miguel O’Hara and other Spidey variants. The movie grossed over $690 million worldwide, proving to be another huge success for both Marvel and Sony.
Cillian Murphy led the Oppenheimer franchise as the father of the atomic bomb, J. Robert Oppenheimer. The biopic ended up becoming the third highest-grossing film of 2023 with $952 million in total global ticket sales.
Meanwhile, Godzilla Minus One is currently playing in Japanese and international theaters and has already proven to be a huge hit. The famed kaiju movie boasts stunning cinematography and visual effects that rivaled that of Hollywood.
