The highly anticipated DLC for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, has finally been released after nearly a year of anticipation. However, this new content developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco is generating a lot of controversy due to its high difficulty level.
It seems many players and fans of this type of game can’t believe how high the difficulty is in this new expansion, even asking the studio to add difficulty levels. On the other hand, newer players in this game, such as streamer Kai Cenat, insist that the fans should just keep playing and not complain so much.
Is Shadow of the Erdtree That Difficult? According to Popular Streamer Kai Cenat, This Is Not Enough to Justify So Many Complaints
Fans of this Japanese studio, which created what is now known as the Soulslike genre, continue to welcome these types of games with open arms. Despite years of unchangeable base difficulty, they continue to sell millions of copies worldwide. Players can’t believe how difficult the Elden Ring expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, is. Many fans have complained about the difference in difficulty between the base game and this content.
Even on social media, several fans have asked the studio to add difficulty selection in a new patch. On the other hand, newer players of these types of games, such as the popular streamer Kai Cenat, still believe that it’s all a matter of skill and that instead of complaining, fans should keep practicing.
These kinds of comments are surprising, as not long ago, the community of this title mocked the streamer’s skills, but now it seems things have turned around.
Will Elden Ring Be the Last Game That Fromsoftware Makes Without a Difficulty Selection Option?
In numerous interviews over the years, the director of these types of games, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has clarified that the fact that these games don’t have a difficult selection will remain part of their identity.
Since the inception of this genre, some community members have been advocating for the option to choose the level of difficulty. On the other hand, the majority agree that this doesn’t need to be implemented, as it would go against what these games represent.
One of the most common complaints about these types of games without being able to select difficulty is that it frustrates players who don’t have much time to play, as they die constantly. But not long ago, the community itself used the well-known phrase “git gud” to tell all the complaining players that they needed to practice and keep trying. The developer will likely ignore these complaints and continue the game’s success like previous titles.
Let’s remember that this expansion required players to have a minimum level to access the new area and the enemies it offered. Many players who had played Elden Ring still hadn’t managed to meet these requirements.
According to genre players, this latest title is not nearly the most difficult the studio has made, so in the future, the next game will probably be even more difficult than previous installments.
