Kate Winslet and Gwyneth Paltrow have been friends for a while now. They have attended several events and premieres together, and have also spoken positively about each other in interviews. It was once revealed that Kate Winslet managed to steal a big role from Gwyneth Paltrow, however, she returned the favor as Paltrow also managed to get a role that was reserved for Winslet. The outcome was good for both of them as Winslet gained a lot of popularity thanks to that role while Paltrow got an Oscar for her performance.

It was once revealed that actress Gwyneth Paltrow was asked to play the role of Rose in James Cameron’s Titanic (1997) but she turned it down. In a 2015 interview, she said,

“I know that the story is that I turned it down. I think I was really in contention for it—I was one of the last two. I look back at the choices I’ve made and think, Why the hell did I say yes to that? And no to that? And you know, you look at the big picture and think: There’s a universal lesson here. What good is it to hold on to roles?”

The role then went to Kate Winslet. Paltrow obviously regrets it as the movie was a huge commercial success and is one of the highest-grossing films of all time. The film even earned over $2.2 billion at the global box office.

Funnily enough, Gwyneth Paltrow also managed to take a role from Kate Winslet. Winslet turned down the role of Viola in Shakespeare in Love (1998). Paltrow then got the role and won an Oscar for best actress in 1999 for her performance in the movie.

The film was made on a budget of approximately $25 million and went on to gross over $289 million worldwide, making it a commercial and critical success. The movie won seven Academy Awards in total. So, fortunately, both celebrities gained something out of their roles.
