But surprisingly, Kate Winslet wanted her then-husband, Sam Mendes to direct Revolutionary Road. Her decision certainly shocked fans as the movie involved several intimate scenes between her and DiCaprio. Evidently, her decision later made filming quite uncomfortable for her, but being a professional Winslet excelled in the part.

After appearing together in Titanic and causing fans to go frenzy over their bond, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio returned to appear in their 2008 drama, Revolutionary Road. Reuniting onscreen, the duo shot their film in New York City and Connecticut, which was a family-friendly production, adapted from Richard Yates’s 1961 cult novel.

Portraying the mature, complex, and fraught relationship between Frank and April Wheeler, Revolutionary Road, turned into an epic and quite relatable drama movie, directed by Sam Mendes. But the director’s involvement in the movie has a story behind it that shocked fans and audiences alike. Speaking with Vanity Fair, Kate Winslet revealed how he wanted her then-husband, Mendes, to direct her movie.

Moved by the script presented to her by Justin Haythe, Kate Winslet felt it would be great to have her then-husband direct the film. She later tried to plan on how to get Leonardo DiCaprio to sign for it. However, the actress certainly didn’t think it through, as she later felt extremely uncomfortable shooting intimate scenes with DiCaprio around Mendes.

Kate Winslet Had Trouble Shooting S-x Scenes in Front of Her Husband 

Filled with raunchy scenes between the married couple, Frank and April Wheeler, who struggle with the quiet dissolution of their dreams, Kate Winslet had trouble shooting those scenes with Sam Mendes watching. Although the actress previously wanted her then-husband to direct the film, she later seemed to have regretted her decision.

During an interview with The Mirror, Kate Winslet admitted how weird it was for her to shoot s*x scenes with Leonardo DiCaprio in front of her then-husband Sam Mendes. Despite having a friendly bond and comfort with DiCaprio, it was Mendes whom Winslet was worried about.

It was the element of, ‘OK my husband is over there.’ That was a bit weird.”

But eventually being a professional artist, Kate Winslet braved the scenes. No matter how awkward she felt about being intimate (even for the sake of films) with another man in front of Mendes, Winslet was called a “consummate professional” by DiCaprio for pulling the scenes perfectly.
