While both of them have only ever collaborated twice in their lengthy careers, their on-screen duo was a force to be reckoned with. From their blazing chemistry to their striking symphony, Reeves and Bullock made a stellar pair in films. Perhaps, they could’ve even passed for a Hollywood power couple with little or no ease had they indulged the prospect of a romantic relationship off the cameras. But alas, that day never came. Their friendship, however, is still as tight as ever.

Opposites attract and nobody will agree with that more than Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves; while the former is gregarious and holds a penchant for breaking the ice by making endless conversation, the latter exudes a quiet charm and prefers to listen more than he likes to talk. See how they both conspicuously differ from each other? Bullock is the fun, bubbly extrovert to Reeves’ reserved introvert, something that the Ocean’s 8 star realized the very first time they worked together in 1994’s Speed.
“It drives you crazy,” the actress and producer told Esquire. “When I first met him, I would spend as much time as I could filling a silence, just to feel comfortable. And the more I jibber-jabbered on, the quieter he would get.” Bullock initially took that as a sign of confusion on her co-star’s part, assuming that the John Wick star’s silence meant she’d offended him somehow. But it was just Reeves taking his sweet time to ponder upon whatever the Miss Congeniality actress had told him.
“I thought, ‘I don’t understand what’s happening!'” Bullock, 58 exclaimed. “And then a day or two later, he would arrive with a note or a little package, saying, ‘I thought about what you said.’ And he would have his response.”
It’s sweet to know that it wasn’t just Bullock “filling the silence” and that Reeves was just as intrigued and attentive toward everything she would talk to him about. It’s even sweeter to know that he’d pull up at her place with flowers accompanied by truffles and champagne and let The Lost City actress paint his nails black. It’s the little things that count, after all.
Sandra Bullock & Keanu Reeves Would’ve Thrived As A Couple
While the two never got around to giving the whole dating thing a whirl, the Academy Award-winning actress believed that they might’ve just been able to make it out as a couple had things panned out in a different way. “Maybe we could have survived,” Bullock remarked. “The longer time goes on, the more in awe I am of the human being.”
After joining forces in Jan de Bont’s blockbuster action film, Bullock reunited with The Matrix actor over a decade later for Alejandro Agresti’s The Lake House (2006). Even after working together in a romantic film though, neither of them was able to express the feelings for each other that they’d bottled up since Speed. But Bullock was the first one to admit to having a crush on Reeves when she opened up about the same during a 2018 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. And the same year, the Canadian actor too revealed being enamored by his co-star. “She obviously didn’t know I had a crush on her either,” he said.
Maybe in another world, things would’ve been different for them.
