Many fans might not be surprised to learn that Keanu Reeves, whose breakthrough role was in 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, has often been considered for films in the Marvel franchise.

Yes, and even fans have been eager to see the actor in the MCU for a long time because he is one of the most likable actors in the entire industry. Although the Canadian actor has previously expressed interest in working with Marvel, he was once approached to star in one of the MCU’s projects prior to the release of Avengers: Endgame.

Despite his love for comic books, the actor reportedly turned down the lucrative contract and the chance to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Well, but his loyalty to another franchise, which won him a lot of admiration for his acclaimed performance, was the reason he chose to turn down the Marvel offer.

Why did Keanu Reeves Allegedly Reject The Marvel film?

The beloved Hollywood actor, Keanu Reeves, famed for his iconic roles in The Matrix and John Wick series, has reportedly turned down the opportunity to join the star-studded Marvel Cinematic Universe. While other actors were vying for roles in one of the popular franchises, the Canadian actor went against the way.

He allegedly turned down a part in the 2019 Superhero film, Captain Marvel in favor of reprising his acclaimed character, John Wick, in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Due to this, Jude Law was cast as Yon-Rogg in Brie Larson’s starter film.

Also, note that this would not be Reeves’ first time playing a superhero. The 58-year-old actor starred in the 2005 movie version of DC Universe’s Constantine.

Is Captain Marvel The Most Hated Film In The MCU?

There are plenty of heroes to root for and villains to love to hate in the Marvel comics, films, and TV shows, but some fans may not connect with certain characters. One such was Brie Larson‘s Carol Danvers or Captain Marvel in Captain Marvel.

But the real question is: Is there a Marvel character that is the most hated?

Well, even though Larson’s Captain Marvel made her MCU debut almost four years ago, a new data analysis has revealed that Captain Marvel is still widely regarded as the most hated Marvel film ever made.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has received a lot of online criticism from fans for things like its casting, LGBTQ+ characters and themes, race- and gender-swapping, etc. But no film has even come close to receiving the level of criticism that was directed at Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s film, Captain Marvel.

While Captain Marvel was generally well-received, many Marvel fans found it to be disappointing.

One Redditor said:

“I thought it was on the lower end of the Marvel movies, and I probably would have liked it more if they hadn’t hyped it up so much.”

Another argued:

According to a recent analysis of online data using disparaging geotagged Twitter posts, hashtags, and phrases, Captain Marvel is the most hated MCU film in nearly half of the states in the United States.

The data divides the country into states and uses a sample of more than 120,000 tracked tweets to determine which Marvel movie received the most negative feedback in each state. Captain Marvel topped the list of hate in 23 states, far surpassing 2021’s Eternals and Black Widow with 7 and 6 states, respectively.

Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel is streaming on Disney Plus.
