However, the recent sequels fail to achieve that popularity as it is full of problems, Lucasfilms noticed that the new trilogy turned out to be a massive disappointment. They made some announcements for their upcoming films which included a film by Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkins, but there has been no news for a few months, and recent reports state that those two Star Wars films have been shelved.

Has Lucasfilms decided to Shelve Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkin’s Star Wars films?

Kathleen Kennedy, the chief of Lucasfilm Ltd. announced in December 2020 that Patty Jenkins, the creator of Wonder Woman would be directing Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, the next film of the franchise. But, in September 2022, Disney postponed the release date to a December 2023 release. However, insiders who are in the industry state that the film by Patty Jenkins is no longer in production.

Moreover, the Star Wars film by Kevin Feige has been shelved as well, the movie was in the works till May 2022, because Michael Waldron told Variety that he will be working on a Star Wars film for Kevin Feige. He added, “I’m enjoying having the freedom on that to do something that’s not necessarily a sequel or anything.”

Kevin Feige

Kevin Feige’s films being put on the shelf was not that big of a surprise because he has been quite busy building compelling stories for the next phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And it would be appropriate to say that Feige’s responsibilities for the MCU are keeping him away from the Star Wars project.

Why Did Lucasfilm Shelve the Films?

The franchise has been heavily criticized with the release of the new films, and with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, many people would believe that the franchise would rely on gifted filmmakers such as Patty Jenkins and Kevin Feige for a successful revival of the franchise. However, with the announcement regarding both films being shelved by the franchise, it is evident that the franchise is moving forward in a different direction.
