Several box-office experts believed that Avengers: Age of Ultron would become one of the biggest box-office hits of all time during its opening weekend. However, the film failed to do that, raking in $191 million domestically, compared to the $207 million from the first Avengers film.
While this amount is remarkable, Marvel executives believed that the film would have made a more significant figure, especially considering that each Marvel Studios sequel had previously made more money than its prequel’s opening numbers. Even with Iger’s reorganization, Marvel’s New York executives complained that their strategy would’ve resulted in better numbers and profits.
Marvel Execs Complained About Avengers: Age of Ultron’s Success
In 2015, Avengers: Age of Ultron became the fourth-highest-grossing film ever, raking in $1.4 billion. However, a few members of the Creative Committee believed that the movie could have made more money if the film had more influence from the Committee.
Kyle Buchanan said that Kevin Feige is usually very composed, particularly in such scenarios. However, he lost his composure, and it seems Avengers 2 was the tipping point. Despite shattering box office records, there were talks about the film earning potentially half a billion more if they had taken Alan Fine’s advice.
Kyle Buchanan said (via MCU: The Reigns of Marvel Studios):
“Kevin’s a rock when it comes to that stuff. But he got to the breaking point, I believe it was Avengers 2 that really set him off. It was a big success financially, but according to what I’ve heard, Ike was told that the movie would have made another half a billion dollars had they listened to Alan [Fine]. Kevin can take on so much. The amount of Bs he will stomach for the greater good is crazy.”
Avengers: Age of Ultron was released globally in May. Soon after, the Creative Committee had dissolved. Feige came out victorious, starting a new era at Marvel Studios, not how he envisioned, but in a way that went beyond his expectations. Finally, Marvel Studios was able to afford new writers.

Is Kevin Feige Planning To Bring Back Original Avengers?
As per reports from Variety, there have been speculations suggesting that Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, is planning to bring back the original Avengers for a Marvel film, likely the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). This also means that Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johannsson, who retired from the franchise in 2019, could reprise their popular roles.
With the introduction of the multiverse, MCU has opened several possibilities in the franchise. While some Phase 5 projects did not work in favor of the MCU, there is still a lot of buzz around upcoming projects, such as the Echo miniseries, mostly because of its intense and graphic imagery. Besides, the fans are also anticipating Deadpool 3, which will bring back Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
