However, many might wonder about the merciless jokes that are a significant part of the Deadpool franchise. Since the upcoming film features quite many jokes about the superhero franchise, the script would have faced some minor inconveniences, but the fact is otherwise.
Kevin Feige’s Thoughts on Deadpool & Wolverine Humor Approach
Ever since the Deadpool franchise kickstarted, it remained true to delivering great punch lines, without restricting the character in any way. This approach not only elevated the character’s appeal but also contributed heavily to making it popular.
Given that fans of the X-Men character would want the character to keep up with his irreverent humor, breaking the fourth wall, and self-awareness, everyone is expecting the same from the upcoming film.
Since Deadpool & Wolverine is finally under the MCU banner, many were concerned about the character’s humorous approach.

In a recent Inverse interview, executive producer Wendy Jacobson was asked whether they faced any pushback from Marvel Studios over jokes that were taking a jab at the studio.
She reflected that the creators completely embraced the character’s aspects, ensuring that it would feel authentic to the source material.
The truth is, we all went into this movie holding hands, eyes wide open, knowing we were making a Deadpool film. We really wanted to be authentic to that. The truth is nothing is off limits to Deadpool, including himself.
She continued that the character’s humor isn’t restricted to a specific group, indicating that making fun of everything and everyone brings a sense of fairness to his jokes.
And when it comes to making fun of something… he never punches down; there’s a real egalitarianism in that. It’s kind of an equal opportunity situation.
She further addressed that Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige also positively took his humor, adding,
Kevin Feige once said, we were talking about one line in particular, and he said, ‘The way I see it is it’s a real badge of honor to be made fun of by Deadpool.’
From what the producer stated, it can be implied that the Marvel boss is taking a daring vision with MCU projects. Ryan Reynolds‘s upcoming film not only makes fun of the superhero studio, but it is also R-rated, marking the first R-rated title from Marvel Studios.

The upcoming Deadpool movie opens new opportunities for the MCU to explore. Its R-rated tag is expected to impact future projects, as addressed by the franchise boss.
During the movie’s press conference, Feige explained that Hugh Jackman‘s starrer project will surely affect the treatment of future MCU projects. He shared via The Playlist,
I think a lot of people talk about the R-rating and, ‘Is every [Marvel] movie going to be R-rated after this?’ [And the answer is] of course not. But I hope every movie after this embraces its tonality the way the way ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and the way this team does.
In another interview with BlackTree TV, he expressed his insights into the company’s approach for the Blade movie, hinting that it will also be an R-rated project.
I mean, for the last two years as we’ve been trying to crack that movie, the most important thing for us is not rushing it and making sure we are making the right Blade movie. Because there were some great Blade movies years ago — they were all rated-R. So I think that’s, like Deadpool, inherent with the character of Blade.
Not just that, What if… director Bryan Andrews already confirmed via Marvel.com that the upcoming Marvel Zombies animated series for Disney+ would be rated TV-MA (television’s R-rating equivalent), promising that the show will be quite gory.
All these minor changes in the franchise reflect that Feige is taking an enthusiastic approach to bringing what’s best for a project.
Deadpool & Wolverine premieres worldwide on July 26, 2024.
