Uma Thurman has been a part of several blockbusters and critically acclaimed movies. The former model’s popularity was catapulted to astronomical levels after she starred in some of the most notable Quentin Tarantino movies. Unfortunately, all those years of hard work and success couldn’t save her from being subjected to unnecessary hate comments for her looks.

The incident in the discussion took place when Uma Thurman walked on the Red Carpet for her 2015 Television series The Slap. The actress’ look was critically judged after she sported a different makeup style for the New York premiere of the show. While various reports indicated her coming under the knife, the reality is quite the opposite and sad to hear.

Headlined for a stark contrast in appearances is not a new thing in Hollywood. There are several faces especially actresses who are often subjected to several comments even if their facial features have the slightest change. While ‘going under the knife’ is also a frequent affair in this industry, often many actresses have to rather come under unnecessary hate due to some controversial perspectives.

Something similar occurred with Uma Thurman when she faced many mean comments and controversial headlines after her New York premiere of the NBC show. Not only several fans, but many articles defined her new look with descriptions like “suspiciously smooth forehead and puffy face along with an extremely tight smile”.

A report by the Time cited the example of another prominent actress Renee Zellweger who also faced a similar treatment earlier. According to Time’s report, the criticism and facial surgery speculation faced by both actresses exposed the tabloid culture.

“Zellweger and Thurman’s similarities aren’t just important because they prove the limited number of tabloid narratives there are to write. They also go to show just how constrained options are for actresses”

Time’s report added that this change was mostly due to their absence from public and media attention. It stated that the Nymphomaniac actress couldn’t be held responsible for not getting any roles like The Bride for a long time- “Should Thurman, then, avoid the spotlight altogether, because so much time has passed since she’s found a Kill Bill-level role?”

The incident had some of the most popular tabloids and columnists speculating hard that Uma Thurman certainly opted for facial surgery. Many comments started overflooding regarding the new look. Sadly, when the actress spoke about her new appearance, it was known that the reports were baseless and that it was nothing but a new style by her makeup artist.

When the Oscar-nominated actress visited the Today Show, she publicly spoke about the controversy and how she was subjected to unnecessary mean comments for her new style.

“I know I look weird. I don’t know, I guess nobody liked my makeup. I’ve been doing this for years and years and years. People say things nice and they say things mean and it’s just like ‘whatever’. You take the good with the bad.”

Uma Thurman’s then-makeup artist Troy Surratt also expressed his thoughts on the situation. He commented that people shouldn’t be freer to experiment with new looks.

“I think that women should feel open and free to experiment with different beauty looks – it’s only make-up, at the end of the day it all washes off.”

The Poison Ivy star will next be seen in Charlize Theron’s superhero film The Old Guard 2. There aren’t any details about her role yet. But on the other hand, the fans are excited as Thurman is reuniting with her Pulp Fiction co-star Samuel L. Jackson for the upcoming The Kill Room alongside Joe Manganiello.
