James Goddard, Head of Development for the title, added how preparation for bringing new features to the game originally started with the May update and mentioned that he was excited to once again welcome the Iron Galaxy team. Although Killer Instinct and Season 1 were developed by Double Helix, Iron Galaxy took over after that, releasing Season 2 and Season 3 in 2014 and 2016 respectively.

Killer Instinct reaches 10 years of launching and will receive an Update

Historically, the first Killer Instinct was released in 1994 and featured environments rendered with a 3D feel and unprecedented animations. The game had a combo system and several different characters, as well as its “cousins” in the fighting scene, Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter. It had 11 playable characters, one secret, and a stage for each of them.

The movement of the characters was a highlight because in the development the well-known technique of capturing movements was used, made by actors who were sent to computers that rendered digital images. Critically acclaimed, the series went on to release Killer Instinct 2 and Killer Instinct Gold. And then, in 2013 the franchise returned with the release of Killer Instinct for Xbox One.

The narrative of Killer Instinct takes place in a chaotic future not so far from contemporary times when pollution has taken over, governments have fallen and the world is controlled by mega-corporations that fight at the cost of the planet, one of the main ones being Ultratech. Controlling everyone through the media, the evil company produces the Killer Instinct tournament, which serves as a testing ground for Ultratech weapons and world entertainment, promising the winners anything they want, while the losers suffer a cruel fate.

So, both those familiar with the series and those interested in the fighting game scene can be excited for the upcoming 10-year update of the last game that will have news coming soon.
