Deadpool & Wolverine was full of surprises. A fan-favorite moment, though, was when Ryan Reynold and Hugh Jackman get kidnapped by the resistance group and come face to face with Laura, Elektra, Blade, and Gambit. The audience screamed out loud when Channing Tatum walked in with a comic-accurate Gambit look, and even though it has been a month since the film was released, Gambit is still stuck in everyone’s minds.

While fans loved Channing Tatum’s version of Gambit, it seems like the actor has a bit of competition in Tinseltown – Taylor Kitsch. Taylor Kitsch played the role of Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. While his portrayal initially received mixed reviews, it looks like fans have changed their opinions on him as Gambit, after all.

Most would kill for a solo Gambit movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Channing Tatum and his Cajun accent. Sure, we’d need subtitles but that’s a small price to pay for such an epic idea.

However, it looks like some fans would rather see Taylor Kitsch as the Ragin’ Cajun instead. On Reddit’s r/xmen, a fan asked people for their opinion on Kitsch’s portrayal of Gambit and while the OP “thought he was okay,” the replies were full of fans praising his performance.

The consensus seems to be that Kitsch got the short end of the stick as Fox wasted a great actor on a poorly written role. Fans believe that Kitsch had all the swagger and suave to be the perfect embodiment of Gambit but because of wrong choices made by the studio, he wasn’t allowed to unlock his full potential.

Take a look at what fans have to say about Kitsch’s Gambit:

Unfortunately for the chunk of fans who prefer Kitsch over Tatum, Marvel Studios decided to give the latter a chance at playing Gambit after a series of unfortunate events. Not that anyone’s complaining.

After playing Gambit, Kitsch made it clear that he was done playing superhero roles. He jokingly told ComicBookMovie.com that he wasn’t constantly on the phone with his team, making them look through Marvel Comics to find a superhero role for him.

When asked why as there are a lot of characters he’d be great for, Kitsch replied, “Not for me though. I’m done with it.”

But when he joined Den of Geek a couple of months later for the promotion of Battleship (2012), he took his words back. Talking about how Hugh Jackman was about to star in The Wolverine, Kitsch stated that while he wasn’t planting a seed with his words, he was completely ready to do a cameo.

I would, man. I know Hugh [Jackman]’s doing Wolverine soon, so I’m not planting a seed in any way, but if he called me and wanted me to do a cameo in it or something, I’d do it. It’s that simple. But I haven’t been approached by anyone.

He also talked about how his fans had been wanting to see him reprise the role, and just how flattered he was by all the love.

What’s been really flattering is that a lot of fans want to see it. And that’s the best compliment you can get, is that people want to see you again in that role. Or any role. And I loved playing him – he’s a suave motherf*cker. He’s fun to play, man. So I’d love to do it. But I doubt it’ll happen.

In fact, he revealed that he’d love to play Gambit even when he turns 40-45 if given the chance. Considering the fact that Kitsch is 43 at the moment, it’s safe to assume that he would have reprised the role in Deadpool & Wolverine in a heartbeat.

It has been over a decade since we saw him in the role, but fans are still begging for more. But hey, with the multiverse unlocked, anything is possible, isn’t it? There is no harm in clowning.
