Silent Hill, a legacy series, is another feather in their cap that is once again in the news after the recent PlayStation State of Play. The horror franchise is set to welcome a new addition to the series, but some information reveals that Konami may be bringing back the classics in the form of a remake, similar to what they have done with the Metal Gear series.

This news comes from a recent interview with Riya Miyatani, Level Design Director at HexaDrive, uploaded to the official Silent Hill YouTube channel. The discussion took place after the State of Play event and was focused on the reveal of the new game in the series, Silent Hill: The Short Message. According to Miyatani, Konami had reached out to the studio with an idea to port the original trilogy for current generation consoles.

Miyatani stated that everyone from HexaDrive who was part of this discussion was a big Silent Hill fan, and the discussions eventually concluded with the decision to remake the games. She states the staff began work on a production-quality mock-up demo to be presented to Konami as a proof-of-concept for the Silent Hill 2 remake. Unfortunately, these plans fell through and HexaDrive ended up working on Silent Hill: The Short Message while Bloober Studio picked up the Silent Hill 2 remake.

The fate of the Silent Hill trilogy remake is unclear, but we could take cues from the Metal Gear remake

During the interview, Miyatani stated HexaDrive was supposed to work on remaking the original Silent Hill trilogy before the focus was shifted towards the Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill: The Short Message. Whether we will finally get a current-generation look at the classic games is still up in the air, as Miyatani did not state if the studio had received a green light for the project.

Konami may be looking to bring back classic Silent Hill games as it did so with Metal Gear. Last year the developer announced Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of Snake Eater from 2004, as well as the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. While there is still no concrete evidence that Silent Hill will receive the same treatment, it makes sense for Konami to bring back some one of its greatest series.

Current remakes have been received with overwhelming positivity, and fans are sure to jump on the chance to once again experience the horror of Silent Hill. Do you feel Konami should commit to the plan of remaking the Silent Hill trilogy? be sure to let us know in the comments below!
