Lois Lane is an extremely iconic character from the story of one of the most beloved superheroes of all time, Superman. There have been many to portray her over the years, with the most memorable being Margot Kidder, who played this character in Christopher Reeve’s Superman films, along with Elizabeth Tulloch, who is seen as her in the Arrowverse, Rachel Brosnahan, who was most recently cast in the role for Superman: Legacy. The most iconic of this bunch, however, has to be that of Amy Adams.
The Oscar-nominated actress played the character of Lane in a total of four films, where she delivered an extremely beautiful performance, doing justice to this highly beloved character. Starring opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman, it is easy to say that she was the perfect person for this role. However, what many might not know is that there were a lot of actresses who were considered and speculated about before Adams was announced. In this list of people who almost started alongside Cavill are quite a lot of big names, including Kristen Stewart, Rachel McAdams, Jessica Biel, and many more.
1) Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart has played some very memorable and iconic characters in her career, with Bella from Twilight and Princess Diana in the 2021 film, Spencer, being some examples. It would seem that she almost played the role of another extremely iconic character, as revealed by New York Daily News, the actress almost played the role of Lois Lane in Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel. The reason why this did not take place was because of the fact that the actress had just come off the Twilight franchise, something she had been a part of for over five years and did not want to jump into something else that tied her down as much as these types of roles do.
2) Rachel McAdams
Rachel McAdams is no stranger to playing roles in superhero franchises, being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe through her role as Christine Palmer in the Doctor Strange films. When there was speculation going around about who would play the role of Superman’s love interest after the film was announced, many sources suggested that the actress was in the running to play this role.
3) Jessica Biel
Jessica Biel is an exceptionally talented actress, having played some extremely captivating characters in projects like Candy, The Sinner, Total Recall, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In these reports, via Indiewire, of potential contenders for the role of Lois Lane, it was believed that Biel was a front-runner, having come very close to playing this role according to many sources.
4) Malin Akerman
Malin Akerman, who previously starred in one of Zack Snyder’s most notable projects at the time, Watchmen, was also speculated to have been in the running for this role. She would have certainly been an interesting choice and could have, perhaps, had a higher chance of getting this role considering she played a central character in the 2009 film and had prior experience with the director.
5) Dianna Agron
Dianna Agron is best known for her work in the hit television series, Glee, and was also a name that was frequently heard in the context of who will play Lois Lane. At the time, the actress was also in the running for the role of Gwen Stacy in the then-upcoming, Spider-Man film. While this could have been the case, it is difficult to look past the fact that the actress looked far too young for this role, especially when put next to Henry Cavill. This could have been one of the reasons why she was not chosen for this role.
