Lisa Marie Presley died on 12 January 2023, hours after being rushed to a hospital after being found unconscious by her housekeeper. Her first ex-husband, Danny Keough performed CPR until EMTs arrived. Many speculate that she had relapsed.
A major reason for the speculation is that she could not deal with the death of her first son Benjamin Keough, who committed suicide in 2020, at the age of 27. She expressed her love and gratitude for having him in her life, and his absence shook her to the core. However, this was not her first encounter with death, as it goes back to the time when was nine years old.
Lisa Marie Presley once opened up about her battle with addiction
Elvis Presley’s daughter, singer and rockstar Lisa Marie Presley, usually kept her battle with addiction extremely private. But she openly talked about it for the first time in the foreword for Harry Nelson’s book The United States of Opioids: A Prescription for Liberating a Nation in Pain.

“You may read this and wonder how, after losing people close to me, I also fell prey to opioids. I was recovering after the birth of my daughters, Vivienne and Finley(twins from her marriage with Lockwood) when a doctor prescribed me opioids for pain. It only took a short-term prescription of opioids in the hospital for me to feel the need to keep taking them”
She continued with,
“[It’s] a difficult path to overcome this dependence, and to put my life back together. Even in recent years, I have seen too many people I loved struggle with addiction and die tragically from this epidemic. It is time for us to say goodbye to shame about addiction. We have to stop blaming and judging ourselves and the people around us … That starts with sharing our stories.”

Lisa Marie Presley was admitted to rehab on numerous occasions
Marie Presley highlighted how the presence of her four kids gave her a sense of purpose. It was something she could hold on to that helped her recover from addiction. She wrote,
“As I write this, I think of my four children, who gave me the purpose to heal the countless parents who have lost children to opioids and other drugs. [I’m] grateful to be alive today… and to have four beautiful children who have given me a sense of purpose that has carried me through dark times.”

It is reported that the singer admitted herself to rehab a week after her separation from Lockwood. Insiders claimed that “Lisa Marie said she would die if she didn’t get help” in 2016 following her breakup. “She has a private detox team for $400,000 a month, and all of the doctors go to her quarters,” one source revealed. Her mother Pricilla Presley continued to visit her at her home, often worried for her daughter.
Unfortunately, her son passed away in front of her eyes. Before Marie Presley’s death, she was seen with actor Austin Butler at the Golden Globes for Elvis. The actor won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in Drama Motion Picture. In his speech, he thanked the Presley family for letting him into their homes and heart.
