WrestleMania 40 is just around the corner, and the event promises to be bigger than ever. Some of the biggest names in wrestling history, such as Steve Austin and John Cena, might grace the event.
With just a few hours to go, the anticipation around WrestleMania has reached a fever pitch. With all eyes on the ring, and champions set to defend their titles, fans have much to look forward to. However, in light of recent developments, the rumor mills have been working overtime, and one speculation around Cena is likely to disappoint his fans.
John Cena might not enter the ring in WrestleMania 40
With 16 titles to his name, John Cena is one of the most renowned personalities in the world of professional wrestling. While he no longer actively participates in the WWE owing to his filming schedule, Cena’s name still evokes admiration within the fraternity.
There have been several rumors circulating about the potential appearances of WWE legends like Stone Cold and the Undertaker. Cena’s name has also been thrown into the mix every so often, as some felt it might even overshadow The Rock’s moment. Earlier in February, it was reported that the WWE champion had plans to do something at the event, but it seems unlikely now.
The latest rumors suggest that the Suicide Squad actor might not participate. PW Insider reported that Cena might be in Philadelphia, even though he has not been seen yet, where the 40th edition of the wrestling event is set to take place. The publication further suggested that Cena is unlikely to participate in the WWE for the remainder of the season.
The wrestler has carved a niche for himself in the acting industry, and he has joined DC as Peacemaker, the gun-toting antihero. In fact, his commitment to the studio is the reason he has decided to take a step back from the ring.
John Cena will be busy shooting the second season of Peacemaker throughout the year
Cena joined the DCU as Peacemaker, in James Gunn‘s project, The Suicide Squad in 2021. The film saw a group of iconic DC villains go on an array of missions to get time off their prison sentences.
Cena’s role was widely appreciated, and accolades poured in for him for embodying the character so well. The studio greenlighted the TV series based on the villain, which aired on HBO Max in 2022.
Gunn was very impressed with Cena, and he proved his versatility as he donned the role. In an interview with Vulture, the director was all praise for him. “I knew John was not just a performer who was funny, which is why I hired him, but a guy who had this other layer,” he said.
PW Insider reported earlier that the filming of the second season of the show is currently underway in Atlanta. Cena and the others will be filming from June right up to Thanksgiving in November. This schedule potentially affects Cena’s plans to return to the ring this year.
John Cena likely backing out of WrestleMania 40 will surely disappoint fans, if it really does come to pass. However, there is still much to look forward to.
