After several rumors and speculations, FromSoftware confirmed earlier this year that the DLC expansion for Elden Ring called Shadow of the Erdtree is in development. There have been several leaks about the expansion but nothing concrete was known about what it would include or when it would be released, until now. A new leaked product page has now surfaced and it suggests that From Software could release the highly-awaited DLC in February next year.
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC release date leaks
Elden Ring is an action role-playing title and has been praised for its interactive and rich open world, difficult gameplay, and narrative. There have been several rumors about the expansion and players had hoped that the developer would announce the DLC or even reveal something about it at The Game Awards 2023, however, they were disappointed.
This left the fans worried that the expansion was still far from release but it seems like the release date of the expansion may have just leaked through the page of a gaming retailer. The page has now been taken down but it has still managed to make its way to social media and fans are now convinced that the release of the expansion is closer than ever.
As spotted by Redditor u/ChiefLeef22, a collaboration between Bandai Namco, the publisher of the game, and Thrustmaster, the manufacturer of gaming peripherals for a limited-edition controller was briefly shared on the page of gaming retailer DataBlitz. The page stated that the controller is in “sync with new ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ expansion release – Elden Ring Anniversary” and also mentions the release date in the next line that says, “availability February 2024.”
But that’s not all because it seems like Elden Ring might be getting another expansion in 2025 after the first expansion. The product page of the limited-edition controller which is called eSwap also mentions the roadmap for another collaboration between Bandai Namco and Thrustmaster which says “Release to be synchronized with 2025 Elden Ring major Keybeat or new game expansion.”
This collaboration for the year 2025 has two potential controllers as seen in the leak and these are the Malenia character controller and Ranni character controller. The pages have been taken down but a cached version of the webpage showing the product roadmap has been made available. As unlikely as it may sound, the controllers look legit and it might be true after all that the expansion will be released on the game’s second anniversary in February 2024, coinciding with the previous leaks.
After the announcement of the expansion in February 2023, the developer has been radio silent about it and the last time the developer commented on the expansion was at the PlayStation Partner Awards 2023 Japan Asia and compared it to its other games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne.
From Software’s Yasuhiro Kitao stated that the development of the expansion has been progressing but it is still a “little ways off.” He also added that it would bring new battles and characters but didn’t provide any specific details or a release date but mentioned “look forward to new things.”
Judging from Kitao’s comments, it seems like the expansion had some trouble in development and although it was planned to be released in time for the game’s second anniversary, it might be facing delays. Another reason to question the release date of the expansion is that the developer did not reveal anything about it at The Game Awards 2023 even with the release being so close but that could be because the expansion is still further away from launch.
However, seeing how From Software announced the expansion out of nowhere, it might also reveal the release date in the same fashion. It can not be said for certain if the DLC will be released in February 2024 but the prospect of it has hyped the fans as they have waited long for the expansion.
