MSI teased the handheld console on January 4, 2024, with a short teaser on its social media handles and revealed that more information will be revealed at the CES 2024 tech event which will be held between January 9 and January 12, 2024. While it did not explicitly reveal much other than some design and shape and even that it’s a handheld, it wasn’t long till people figured it out.

Soon after the teaser was shared, the name of the console, MSI Claw was known thanks to a Chinese store’s promotional poster, and some pictures also surfaced online. The specs of the handheld have now been leaked via Geekbench listings and reveal that it will be using the Intel Meteor Lake processor which is not a very popular choice in the market.

MSI Claw features the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, a high-spec CPU with a total of 16 cores namely 6 P-cores, 8 E-cores, and 2 LP-cores and 22 threads. This is double of AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme which is used by Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go, meaning that MSI is aiming to do something better and bring a more powerful handheld.

The Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor has the Intel Arc 8-Core iGPU. The base TDP of the CPU is 28W and it can reach 115W with Max Turbo Power but it can not be said how MSI has configured it for the handheld. Moreover, the handheld will be using the Microsoft Windows 11 operating system and will have a memory of 32 GB, double that both Lenovo Legion Go and Asus ROG Ally have.

It is also expected that the company might allow players to customize the memory as per their choice and needs. As per the benchmark score via Geekbench, the handheld console’s single-core score is 2403, and its multi-core score is 11543. The rival of MSI’s handheld, Asus ROG Ally uses AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme and also has similar scores but MSI Claw can get better performance with its drivers and optimizations.

There is no mention of the screen size of the handheld, resolution, battery, or storage in the leaked specs. Although it is speculated that the handheld might feature a seven-inch screen similar to Asus ROG Ally, any other features can only be confirmed when the handheld is showcased at CES 2024.

As per the leaked images, the design of the console boasts Xbox-like controls with RGB backlights, speakers at the front, bezels at the top and bottom of the screen with MSI branding and the bezels get narrow at the sides of the handheld. The specifications suggest that the handheld will be able to run AAA titles smoothly possibly even at high settings.

Although some fans have liked the design of the gaming console, many are still not impressed. Some fans have also questioned the use of Windows which hasn’t been able to deliver a great experience. Players have always asked for Steam OS on handheld consoles but the majority of them use Windows.

Fans are also expecting that MSI Claw has a greater battery as compared to its competitors which have had issues with battery backup. MSI and handheld fans are excited to see what the company brings to the market and if it can be a strong contender in the handheld market.
