The movie depicted the harsh reality of war, where Norman, initially reluctant to engage in battle, is pushed by his battle-hardened comrades to participate in the horrors of war.

To immerse the 31-year-old in the character’s innocence set against the horrors of combat, the other actors reportedly subjected him to torment, mirroring the actions of their on-screen personas.

Director Ayer allegedly encouraged the cast to physically and verbally abuse one another, delving into their personal lives to formulate cutting insults. Co-star Jon Bernthal also confirmed the challenging environment. He said,

“We’re a group of actors that range from age 50 to 20, you know? Some of us have been fighting our whole lives, and some of us have never been in a fight in our lives. And we’ve brought together, put in a ring, and told to fight each other.”

The relentless bullying took a toll on Lerman, who openly acknowledged the lingering scars and wounds he carried even after the film’s completion. The actor said,

“It left some scars and some wounds maybe I’m still healing from.”

The extreme preparation undertaken by the ensemble, as recalled by Pitt, aimed to break them down physically and emotionally, inducing coldness, exhaustion, misery, and discomfort through wet conditions and the serious fights which involved his supporting co-star Shia LaBeouf.

The Lost City performer shedding light on the on-set altercation, shared the story while promoting the movie. In an interview with a media outlet, he said,

“I’m in the turret, Shia is at the other turret, and Scott is on the back, spitting juice. And I’m starting to get pissed off, because this is our home, he’s disrespecting our home, you know? So I said, in the scene with the cameras rolling, You’re going to clean that shit up.”

Despite the turmoil, Fury managed to overcome the challenges and went on to achieve both critical acclaim and commercial success.
