Kristen Stewart had previously spent five movies playing the clumsy heroine Bella Swan, who was smitten with the sparkling vampire Edward Cullen, in the Twilight saga. But while the actress totally adores her character, she mentioned one significant flaw in the plot of the film, that she would have never agreed with, in the present date.

Kristen Stewart Addressed Her Twilight Character

From creating headlines following her Rolling Stones photoshoot to being busy with her Love Lies Bleeding press tours, Kristen Stewart took some time out for Amanda Hirsch’s Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast. Appearing for an interview, the actress was taken back in time to when she played the role of the naive protagonist Bella Swan in the Twilight films.

Adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s novels by the same name, the Twilight movies grossed a combined $3.3B worldwide, as per Variety reports. Therein, Kristen Stewart appeared as the high school outcast Bella Swan alongside Robert Pattinson‘s sexy bloodsucker Edward Cullen, for five movies. Thus, addressing Stewart’s career-launching role, Hirsch started by asking if the actress likes her character in retrospect.

Let’s talk about Bella for a second. Do we not like her in retrospect?” Amanda Hirsch asked.

Do we not like her? Whoa. Hey, you better be careful. I don’t know if you can tell who you’re talking to right now.” Stewart started defensively.

However, after the podcast host explained her question and argued that Bella was “a little desperate” to turn into a vampire to be with Edward, Kristen Stewart realized the statement. That’s when the actress noted one particular issue in the plot that made her concerned in retrospect.

Kristen Stewart Pointed Out One Major Flaw in the Films

Following Amanda Hirsch’s question about her onscreen character and argument that Bella was a bit too desperate for Edward, Kristen Stewart charged back with a plot point that now makes her feel worried. Claiming that Bella was only desperate to turn into a vampire because Edward was trying to control her life’s decision, Stewart shifted the discussion to a different argument.

He was trying to sort of control whether or not she made choices for herself. I would’ve broken up with him immediately.

Addressing how back then Bella tried to overpower Edward’s controlling nature by being desperate to be a vampire, Kristen Stewart noted that if it was in the present date, she would have never agreed with this plot. Instead, the actress offered a different perspective where, if Edward had tried controlling her decisions, she would have dumped him.

I mean if I was like, ‘Hey, I want to try that,’ and he was like, ‘No, this is just for me,’ I would be like, ‘Well, this is also just for me. My whole life. Without you,’… I get the sort of protection thing, but you gotta let a girl make her own choices.

Throughout her press tours, Kristen Stewart spoke a lot about her catapulting Twilight role and noted being criticized for her moody screen acting. Explaining the reason behind it, Stewart stressed that brooding and being naive and clumsy is what kept her interpretation of Bella true to the book series. Otherwise, given the option, the actress would have never agreed to the plot where Edward made decisions about Bella’s life, on behalf of her.

The Twilight movies are available on Peacock.
