Zack Snyder’s DC tenure is over, as it seems, but he is yet to move on from the glorious legacy he had forged in the DC universe. The director has somewhat given the studio an identity while creating his own universe as we know it as Snyderverse. Currently, Snyder is working with Netflix, but he would go back to DC in a heartbeat for one movie.
Right now, Snyder has been in a huge conflict with critics as his Rebel Moon franchise has been a critical bomb. Also, a Norse mythology-inspired animated series Twilight of the Gods from the director at Netflix recently got the first image, which revealed that he will be with Netflix for quite a while.
Zack Snyder Would Direct The Dark Night Returns
If there is one person Zack Snyder adores most in DC, it has to be Frank Miller for his 1986 four-issue comic book miniseries, The Dark Knight Returns starring Batman. Snyder adopted the essence of it in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice— he didn’t hesitate to put DC’s mightiest heroes in a pit of moral ambiguity. Quite Milleresque, as the movie has brought the depth of The Dark Knight Returns animated 2012 movie by Jay Oliva. Still, Snyder feels there is more to the comic book series, and he would direct the movie if he gets a call from DC.
“Dark Knight Returns is the only movie I would do if, uh, only real comic book movie I would do tomorrow if, if I could get a chance to do it… it’s comic-accurate at 100%… Yeah, no that one scene after icon that is literally my Bible so there’s no way I would like that would, that would be something fun to do. I think and I think it, it’s it’s a cult movie um, you know that maybe that’s what you know the the kind of at some point is going to need to get done. I think just because it’s so weird and so it’s so weird and so now it’s so 80s and so period which I love about,” Snyder said of The Dark Night Returns in a chat with Josh Horowitz in Happy Sad Confused podcast.
However, it is unlikely that he will return to DC anytime soon, considering James Gunn’s plans for the new DC Universe as he dismissed the actors of the frontline heroes, including Henry Cavill, and Ben Affleck. Still, in the distant future of his career, the director may crack the fortune cookie to direct his desired DC movie.
Fans Want Zack Snyder Back At DC
While it’s unlikely that Warner Brothers would consider Snyder to be a part of DC fans have urged the director to come back to the studio. Perhaps, for one movie to bid farewell to Affleck’s Batman. Snyder was yet to make a solo Batman movie, but his tenure abruptly ended. Now, fans are singing the tune for Snyder for another DC movie from him.
Give it to him and let it be Ben Affleck farewell movie

1. Affleck quit Batman for good, how many times does he have to tell you?
2. WB will never let Snyder back on their lot, much less direct a film. pic.twitter.com/pgC2PlAvSk— Oh (@Tru1_) April 26, 2024
…He already kinda did that with BVS tho 😭😭😭 like sure it wasn't one for one, but the influence was clearly there.

A The Dark Knight Returns movie directed by Snyder, Written by Nolan and Starring Keanu Reeves as Batman would be fire.
The only problem is that Keanu is not as buffed as he should be to play TDKR batman, other than that he would be perfect.
I won't mind if its a animated project— Vishin Singh (@VishinSingh) April 26, 2024
It would be one great Batman movie

Snyder’s DC tenure was quite successful at the box office, his Man of Steel starring Cavill earned $667 million (per The Numbers) at the box office, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice grossed over $872 million (per The Numbers) at the global box office. But his movies are kind of critical bombs, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice could claim a poor 29% score at Rotten Tomatoes. Considering the current scenario, it’s a long shot for the director to have a project in DC.
