The popular character introduced in Carlo Collodi’s children’s novel, Pinocchio, has been the subject of many adaptations over the years. Many acclaimed filmmakers, including Stephen Spielberg and Gullermo del Toro, have shared their unique interpretations of the character, which have been received very well by critics and audiences alike. However, people do not seem too excited for the next adaptation following the character.
Jagged Edge Productions, the filmmakers behind Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, have officially announced and shared the first look at their horrifying take on the character in Pinocchio: Unstrung.
The Filmmakers Reveal the First Look at Pinocchio: Unstrung
After their chilling interpretation of Winnie-the-Pooh in the 2023 British independent slasher film Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, Jagged Edge Productions is set to expand their public domain horror universe with a new film.
The upcoming horror adaptation centers around the well-known character Pinocchio. Bloody Disgusting recently revealed the first look at the upcoming film Pinocchio: Unstrung, sharing an early glimpse into the chilling world the filmmakers are crafting.
The movie is scheduled to commence production in the upcoming summer and is anticipated to hit theaters in late 2024. The report also states that “unannounced characters from the universe” will be revealed through sketch drawings featured in the end credits of Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2.
Pinocchio: Unstrung marks the latest addition to a series of horror adaptations announced by the production house, which include Bambi: The Reckoning and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare. However, people are not too pleased with the filmmaker’s constant attempts at transforming beloved characters into horror parodies.
Fans Are Not Happy With Pinocchio: Unstrung
As makers revealed the first look at the upcoming film Pinocchio: Unstrung, people took to share their views on the horror adaptation of another beloved character after Winnie The Pooh. While some shared that the idea of adapting such characters with a horror concept is good, they also argued that it should be done properly rather than developing as a “B horror movie.”
Let me guess, the budget is $10!

Why are they making them all horror movies?

Others also pointed out the lackluster reviews of Blood And Honey, stating that they hope the Pinocchio adaptation receives better reviews than the 2023 film. Directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, the 2023 slasher film was heavily panned by critics for presenting the beloved characters in “a gruesome context.”
One user also stated, “Let me guess, the budget is $10,” quipping at the low budget of the 2023 film that flourished at the box office, making over $5.2 million worldwide against an estimated budget of $100,000. However, some also shared that they are looking forward to the adaptation.
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is available to stream on Peacock.
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is set to release on February 14, 2024.
