Steven Spielberg is one of the most respected directors in the world. His works have often found themselves winning one award after another, proving just how talented of a director he really is. If a movie has his name on it, it immediately attracts a large sum of people. If not always as a director, Spielberg can often be seen consulting others during the making of their projects.

More often than not, he can be seen as a producer. This has led him to be not just a widely recognized individual but also respected heavily within the industry. This also led Don Mattrick, the video game designer, to contact the director when it came to the making of Halo’s series.

Steven Spielberg Tried Helping in the Making of Halo

Every live-action project for Halo has been a hit and a miss. Microsoft’s attempt to make a big screen debut of the much-loved game started much earlier, almost two decades ago. This had gone so far as to even get Peter Jackson involved in the movie. However, the movie shattered before it even began. This was because of how little creative control they had. 2022’s Halo series came into being with Pablo Schrieber starring as the main character. In order to make sure the series did not fail, Don Mattrick got Steven Spielberg involved.

“Especially coming out of the movie experience, it’s like, we get one big swing at this, so let’s take the time to do it right.”

The director joined as an executive producer after he tried to oversee all the decisions that were being made for the series. Although he was busy working on other projects, he also looked over at the Paramount+ series from time to time. Darryl Frank, the executive producer of the show stated that he had been more involved in the making of the series than many would seem to think. According to Frank, he had not only seen the scripts but also decided on who would direct and star in the series.

Steven Spielberg’s Involvement Helped Only a Little

Although the series had been one many were looking forward to, it got a rather mediocre response. Fans of Halo are ones who dearly love the Xbox game. They have been playing the game for as long as they can remember and the legacy the series followed was heavy. However, it barely lived up to the expectations. Although many fans found it nice, a majority of them did not. The showrunners’ goal was to undo the damage previous trials of live-action projects had done.

No matter how hit a project may be, fans will always find some or the other thing that went wrong. Even with the latest One Piece live-action, although not a game, but an anime, live actions often face the same amount of treatment. From Uncharted to Arcane, there is a range of how vividly a story can be shown. It can be both good and bad. Despite the underwhelming response, there is a second season yet to premiere for the series, making fans see just what else can be added to Halo.

Halo season 2 will premiere on Paramount+ either by late 2023 or early 2024 taking into consideration the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
