The Ant-Man Actor Opens Up About Battling Substance Addiction

David Dastmalchian got an alcohol addiction in his freshman year, which only got worse with time. The actor shared how it developed into a drug addiction and changed his life for the worse. The Teacher actor also shared how this addiction became an issue not only for himself but also for the people around him.

After this, his family helped him to get into a rehab facility that helped him sober up. And he is grateful to stay sober for two decades. During the premiere of his latest film, Boston Strangler, Dastmalchian shared that his sobriety “informs all the work that I do as an actor.”

“For nothing else, the endless pool of gratitude that I feel for the past two decades of this journey, living without drugs and alcohol, absolutely informs all the work that I do as an actor and think about the characters I want to bring to life.”

He is grateful for the way his life turned out, even after struggling with substance addiction. He wrote a screenplay following his addiction struggles, which was developed by Collin Schiffli and featured him alongside Kim Shaw. In his latest film, he portrays the notorious serial killer Albert DeSalvo, who is known to confess to killing 13 women in the Boston area from 1962 to 1964.

David Dastmalchian Switched Roles For Ant-Man Threequel

David Dastmalchian portrayed one of Scott Lang’s ex-con-friends, Kurt, in the first two Ant-Man films. Although his Marvel character was not a part of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the director of the film, Peyton Reed, had another offer for the Animals star.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Dastmalchian talked about how Reed offered him the role of Veb, a slime-like creature in the quantum realm with the ability to break down communication barriers.

After learning that Kurt would not have a part in the Ant-Man threequel, Dastmalchian created a tape with Veb’s potential voice and movement and sent it to Peyton Reed. After seeing the tape, the Ant-Man director decided to bring him back as Veb and invited him to perform Veb’s motion captures for the film.

Boston Strangler is available to stream on Hulu.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is currently playing in theaters.
