The season 2 finale of Loki showed Hiddleston’s Loki as the God of Stories, taking over the reins to protect the sacred timeline from the Kang variant He Who Remains. This gave a satisfying end to his character arc. With the recent What If…? Season 2 trailer hinting at an appearance from Loki, it seems like the finale was not his final appearance after all.

Tom Hiddleston became the talk of the town again when he gave an amazing performance as the God of Mischief in the second season finale of the Disney Plus series Loki. The series saw a satisfying conclusion to the villain-to-antihero-to-hero arc of the trickster God when he takes over the mantle of God of Stories.

The season 2 finale sees Loki trying to stop his variant Sylvie from killing the Kang variant He Who Remains, the sole protector of the Sacred Timeline. However, Loki fails multiple times, traveling back in time again and again, being stuck in a Groundhog Day-style time loop.

Hiddleston’s Loki then realizes that he has to choose between finally going on adventures with his chosen family, with whom he finally feels accepted, or choosing to save the Sacred Timeline by taking over the mantle of He Who Remains. He chooses the latter, sacrificing his final chance at forming close relationships, and saves the Sacred Timeline.

Tom Hiddleston’s performance and the finale’s writing were universally acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, with many considering the series to be a return to form for Marvel, which had been on a downward spiral. The series was also rumored to be the final appearance of Hiddleston as Loki since his arc has finally ended.

Loki Is Seen In The New Trailer For What If…? Season 2

The animated Disney Plus series What If…? sees many of the actors from the live-action films lend their voices to alternate versions of their characters. Actors such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Hemsworth, Hayley Atwell, Elizabeth Olsen, and Sebastian Stan, among others, join in to play their live-action counterparts in the series.

Recently, the trailer for the season 2 of What If…? Was released with the imagery of a Yggdrasil-like tree seen at the end of Loki season 2 making an appearance. The tree-like structure acts as a visual representation of the multiverse, with each branch referring to a separate timeline where each character has undergone some change.

The tree was reminiscent of the tree at the end of Loki and since the tree is being referred to by the Watcher in the show, fans have been speculating if Loki would make an appearance in the acclaimed show. A variant of Loki is also seen with his signature crown on top of his head in a single shot during the trailer. Tom Hiddleston has previously voiced many versions of Loki in season 1 of the series.
