Since his tenure as Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick, Glen Powell has no intentions of slowing down anytime soon in showbiz, as he has cemented himself as one of the most bankable names in Hollywood. And for his new feature, Twisters, a sequel to the 1996 film Twister, his Top Gun 2 costar Tom Cruise opted to join forces with him during the film’s European premiere.
While the Mission: Impossible star skipped the red carpet, most presumably to not take away attention from the movie, fans can’t help but admire Cruise’s subtle way of promoting the disaster flick.
Tom Cruise Subtly Promoted Glen Powell’s Twisters
Being one of the biggest names in the realm of movies, few possess a better sense of understanding than Tom Cruise when it comes to showbiz’s business side of things. During the premiere of Glen Powell’s Twisters, Cruise made sure to stay out of the red carpet to ensure that his costar’s new feature was in the limelight.
Moreover, considering how major marketing props popcorn buckets have become this year, which started out with Dune: Part Two, the MI star made sure to use it to promote Twisters in a subtle fashion. But the same can’t be said for his pal Powell, whose thumb is in the bucket for no reason.
Taking to X, fans can’t help but admire Cruise even more when reflecting on the actor’s marketing intuitions, as he made sure to keep the film’s name on his popcorn cup visible.
With Cruise set to move to more original projects after his MI 8, fans will hope the two collaborates two collaborate once more for the big screen moving forward.
Tom Cruise Once Pranked Glen Powell During a Helicopter Ride
Before supporting Hangman on Twisters‘ premiere, Tom Cruise made sure to put the fear of god in Glen Powell during their time together on a helicopter. During their time hovering over London in a helicopter after some reshoots for Top Gun 2, the Hit Man star recalled Cruise pranked him by pretending to lose control of the helicopter.
Considering Powell was yet to break big in Hollywood at the time, the actor joked he was going to be the unnamed guy to die alongside the MI star.
Tom goes, ‘Oh no, oh no,’ and he starts dropping the helicopter over London. I was like, ‘Am I about to be the unnamed guy that dies with Tom in a smoking hole in the middle of London?’
But thanks to the historic success of Top Gun 2, Powell is no longer an unnamed guy and is currently one of the biggest young stars in Hollywood.
Twisters will hit theatres on 19 July 2024.
