Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is working on a new film in the Star Wars universe. The reported title, Star Wars: New Jedi Order, would be the director’s new way of looking at things in the universe. Speaking with CNN, the director revealed that the production of the film is underway, and the new film might be woman-led for the first time in Star Wars history.

“I’m very thrilled about the project because I feel what we’re about to create is something very special. And we’re in 2024 now, and it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away,” Obaid-Chinoy said.

As of yet, there is no confirmed release date. If the movie is production-bound, it seems that fans may witness the film on big screen by the end of 2027. However, as the news surfaced, fans blasted the director.

While Obaid-Chinoy is optimistic about the vision and ready to go with Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker, the cohort of Star Wars fans is not in line with the director’s optimism. Many fans have related the future of the film to The Marvels’ box office debacle. Notably, both The Marvels and the upcoming Obaid-Chinoy movie fall under the banner of Disney Studios.

Initial fan reaction to the news has not been so intriguing, and based on the initial reactions, it is hard for anyone to assume where the film is headed.

Recently, Disney suffered a huge blow with MCU’s The Marvels. While the original Captain Marvel worked like a charm, the sequel failed miserably, and fans fear that the new Obaid-Chinoy movie could meet the same fate.
