Fans want a remake of Steve McQueen’s The Great Escape with Leonardo DiCaprio

The Great Escape was an American epic war suspense adventure film. It featured Steve McQueen, James Garner, and Richard Attenborough in the lead roles. The supporting cast included James Donald, Charles Bronson, Donald Pleasence, James Coburn, Hannes Messemer, David McCallum, Gordon Jackson, John Leyton, and Angus Lennie. The movie was directed by John Sturges and had its Royal World Premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square in London.

The film is still famous for the dialogue delivery and style of the actors. On its 60th anniversary, the fans of the film shared a clip from Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. In the clip Steve McQueen’s face is morphed by the Academy Award-winning actor’s face, Leonardo DiCaprio. The video is going viral on social media.

The fans of the classic film are demanding a remake of the film since the video went viral.

The film is based on the non-fiction book of the same name, written by Paul Brickhill in 1950. The story of the film revolved around a mass escape by British Commonwealth prisoners of war from the German POW camp Stalag Luft III in the Second World War.

In Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood, director Quentin Tarantino placed actor Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) in several movies and shows. Cinematographer Robert Richardson and production designer Barbara Ling talked about the technique involved in an interview with Polygon,

Richardson shared about the scene where Dalton was cast instead of Steve McQueen,

“When we did The Great Escape, it’s actually The Great Escape material.”

“You’re shooting [DiCaprio] in costume, and you’re shooting him with a little bit of a [green] screen, and then you’re just wiping out Steve McQueen.”
