SUMMARY

  • Luffy's greatest power shown thus far in the narrative is his Gear 5 transformation in One Piece.
  • But as the most recent chapters demonstrate, Gear 5 might not be strong enough to overcome an opponent like Saint Jaygarcia Saturn just yet.
  • One Piece's most recent chapter, Chapter 1106, may have already revealed this brand-new ability, which renders Gear 5 obsolete.

The Gear 5 transformation of Luffy in One Piece is his strongest ability shown till now in the story. With the help of this ability, not only did he defeat a Yonko who is also known as the strongest creature in the world, but he also destroyed Navy Admiral Kizaru who is also a pretty tough opponent.

However, as seen in the latest chapters, Gear 5 might not be powerful enough yet to defeat someone as strong as Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, one of the five elders. Therefore Luffy may need another power-up or unlocking of some other ability that would help him to fight stronger opponents in the future if he wants to be the King of the Pirates.

The latest chapter of One Piece, Chapter 1106 may have already introduced this new power which makes Gear 5 look like nothing. This power is related to his heartbeat during the Gear Fifth transformation and it gives him the ability to power up the Iron Giant which is kept on Egghead Island because it has no energy.

The Iron Giant in One Piece

The Iron Giant is a legendary machine that allegedly assaulted Mary Geoise about 200 years ago. It was first made approximately 900 years ago, during the Void Century. It is kept on Egghead and was dormant because of low energy. Since it ran out of power before causing destruction, the full scope of its abilities is currently unknown.

Nevertheless, it accomplished the task of crossing the Red Line and was regarded as something that was beyond the state of science at the time. Later, Vegapunk used it as the model for Vegaforce-01, but he was never able to duplicate the Iron Giant’s mysterious Ancient Power source of energy.

When Luffy, Chopper, Jinbe, and Bonney were staying on Egghead, they unintentionally came across the Iron Giant and found out that he was a robot that worked on its own and doesn’t need any kind of control. However, it does need an energy source and this energy source seems to be Luffy’s heartbeat which sounds like the drums of Liberation.

Luffy’s New Ability Allows Him To Power The Iron Giant

As seen in the previous chapters featuring the Egghead arc, and in the latest chapter 1106 of One Piece, Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation seems to have the ability to power up the Iron Giant. It is confirmed that it is not a coincidence that the Iron Giant has responded to Luffy on Egghead three times thus far.

When Luffy and Chopper found the robot in chapter 1066, it responded for the first time. Another instance occurred in Chapter 1092 when Luffy utilized Gear 5 during his fight with Kizaru, allowing the Drums of Liberation to reach the robot and light up its eyes. The latest instance occurred in chapter 1106 when Luffy again used the Gear 5 mode which resulted in the Iron Giant moving on its own.

Considering that the Iron Giant fell silent as soon as Luffy ceased using Gear Five and woke up again as soon as he used it again, it seems that its powers may be fueled by Nika’s heartbeat rather than just reacting to it. This grants Luffy the ability to use the Iron Giant whenever he uses Gear 5, thus granting him a whole new power that has never been seen before in One Piece.
