Harry Potter Star Evanna Lynch Wishes Fans Would Give J.K. Rowling “More Grace” Amid Transphobic Tweets

In a recent interview with Telegraph, Lynch admitted she was shocked by the backlash that Rowling faced since the author let those tweets fly online. Many Twitter users considered it transphobic.

I just felt that her character has always been to advocate for the most vulnerable members of society. The problem is that there’s a disagreement over who’s the most vulnerable. I do wish people would just give her more grace and listen to her.”

Back in 2020, the author questioned a phrase that said “people who menstruate” and went on to add, “I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?” Rowling also commented on the issue of same-sex attraction.

Lynch received awful reactions from fans after she posted a tweet defending the author, so the actress was forced to delete her Twitter account. She posted then:

I think it’s irresponsible to discuss such a delicate topic over Twitter through fragmented thoughts, and I wish Jo wouldn’t. That said, as a friend and admirer of Jo I can’t forget what a generous and loving person she is.”

The Harry Potter star admitted that she was completely naïve and did not know that there were two sides to the story. The actress, later on, noted that she has “great compassion for trans people” but she also gives the same on both sides. Like Evanna Lynch, Harry Potter stars Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter showed support for Rowling.

I think she’s busy writing books, I don’t think that’s about conversations that have been had about more controversial issues. I think she was busy. She’s still a big part of it.”

The author was reportedly invited to the special event but declined the offer. When asked if the Harry Potter cast gave Rowling the cold shoulder:

I think there’s things we don’t all agree with and don’t understand. I’ve talked to all the cast, they all have great respect for her if they don’t agree with her beliefs. She has her beliefs, and she’s doing her thing.”

Evanna Lynch is very professional with her answers and seems to stay on the safe side to avoid any troubles. As the actress has learned her lesson, it only pays to be careful with the remarks she makes online.
