Marvel fans are already predicting the downfall of Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web which brings the topic to Sydney Sweeney’s wasted potential as a Spider-Man 4 villain/love interest since she plays Julia Carpenter in the upcoming Sony film. Based on a lot of fan artwork transforming the Euphoria star as Black Cat, fans are totally convinced she should have been cast in the role. This would also open doors for Sweeney to finally make her screen debut in Tom Holland’s upcoming fourth Spider-Man installment.

Fans Demand Sydney Sweeney To Play Black Cat Instead Of Julia Carpenter

Sydney Sweeney previously spoke with Variety and shared how she felt upon hearing she got the part of Julia Carpenter in Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web. She also noted that she studied the character and bought herself a couple of comic books to peruse.

I was freaking out, of course. I went straight to the comic store, and I bought every comic that mentioned my character. I think it’s different from what people expect a superhero movie to be. Quote that! That’s a quote because the tabloids will pick up everything else we talk about.”

To prepare for her role as Julia Carpenter, Sweeney trained for her own stunts in the movie, which required the actress enough flexibility and core strength. She shared to Screen Rant:

I would just practice every day trying to get into the splits, moving from upside down and turning myself completely onto my feet… You just practiced a month or two for as you train to of have to relearn it in a way because it’s a very tight suit, and it’s very stiff, and I mean, you can barely bend your legs, so you’re trying to force your body to do things that it’s supposed to do.”

Indeed, these moves are similar to the acrobatics of Spider-Man’s Black Cat, a role in which Marvel fans are convinced she should have starred instead of Madame Web’s Julia Carpenter. Here are some of the fans’ thoughts regarding Sweeney as Black Cat:

Madame Web Gets Bashed By Early Reviews

The early reactions to Madame Web are already filled with negative criticism and hilarious thoughts from fans and critics. YouTuber Cris Parker wrote:

Madame Web is an embarrassing mess. Talented stars wasted on probably the worst comic book movie I have ever seen. Filled with atrocious dialogue, awkward editing, & all around laughable structure. I sat there baffled scene by scene someone approved this. The memes will redeem it.”

Madame Web seems to be on the brink of joining Sony’s roster of flopped projects despite its star-studded cast. Still, the box office outcome and critical reviews will give the verdict.

True enough, Sydney Sweeney’s involvement in Madame Web may have been a casting mistake when she could have worked pretty well as Spider-Man 4’s Black Cat.

Madame Web arrives in theaters on February 14, 2024.
