Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali is severely committed to the Blade reboot, as per recent reports. Officially announced back in 2019 Comic-Con, the production for the movie has encountered some recent troublesome developments. Despite the setbacks that have plagued the ambitious attempt, the renowned Hollywood star is very much on-board with the premise.

While several rumors detailed an ever-growing frustration from his side, recent reports claim that the Green Book alum has considerable creative autonomy when it comes to the development process of Blade. This might be pointing to a better future for the project which seems to be in murky waters as of late.

As ascertained by recent reports, the production for the Mahershala Ali-starrer is now on a temporary hold for a few months following the former director of the film, Bassam Tariq, dropping out of the film.

Additionally, certain sources also claimed that many elements — such as a script that only consisted of 90 pages and featured only two devastatingly lukewarm action sequences — had been causing disturbances to the endeavor, which even made the star of the film grow frustrated with each passing second.

While these are mainly rumors, there’s no doubt that anyone would be prone to get irritated when faced with such a scenario. Recently, Marvel’s entire slate for upcoming Multiverse Saga projects received a massive change. Many integral movies, such as Fantastic Four, Deadpool 3, Avengers; Secret Wars, and other untitled endeavors, have been delayed and Blade is no such exception. In fact, the Mahershala Ali-led film is what caused the ripple effect in the first place.

Fans have been worried about the news surrounding the reboot, assuming that things may go from worse to worst if Ali, too, abandons the project. Luckily for them, such speculations are far from reality.

Every cloud has a silver lining, after all.

Mahershala Ali Is Still Very Committed To The Blade Reboot

According to SlashFilm, one of their sources has confirmed that despite the various hurdles and production nightmares, the acclaimed, eminent, and dedicated figure is not ready to let go of the project. On the contrary, the reports reveal that the Moonlight actor is very much invested. When it comes to most large-scale attempts by famous franchises, temporary holds and development setbacks are a part and parcel of the industry. It is archetypal. Sometimes inevitable.

The SlashFilm source claims that Mahershala Ali has a huge part to play in giving the reboot’s direction a newer, more tangible shape. The Swan Song alum is most certainly involved with the production process. Additionally, the creative freedom that has been granted to the actor might allow him to request several script rewrites.

Hence, the fans do not have much to worry about. While the wait has, unfortunately, exponentially increased the temporary pause, it might do more good than harm. The time will allow the studio to find a director well-equipped for the much-anticipated return of the uber-popular vampire hunter.

At present, the script is being rewritten by X-Men ’97 head writer Beau DeMayo. A complete 180 in the written material suggests starting anew. However, if it promises greatness, then it’ll all be worth it in the end – no matter how much time is taken by the creatives behind the premise. Therefore, with Mahershala Ali’s relentless efforts and never-ending faith, the Blade reboot will hopefully come to fruition with no more interruptions to account for.

As per reports, Blade will resume production in 2023 and see it released on 6 September 2024.
