Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has recently filed to legally drop Pitt’s surname from her name as she turns 18. Among the six children — Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax, Knox, and Vivienne — Shiloh joined her siblings, who previously changed their names, particularly dropping Pitt’s surname. The report reflects the very relationship of the acclaimed actor with his children.

As TMZ broke the news of Shiloh Jolie-Pitt legally requesting to change her name or to keep it simply Shiloh Jolie, it became quite clear that her relationship with Brad Pitt has not been smooth, perhaps since the ugly spite leading to his infamous divorce from Angelina Jolie.

Shiloh is one of the three biological children of the duo. She filed for the name change on her 18th birthday, perhaps the first thing she wanted to do as an adult. However, as of writing this piece, her request has not been granted, but it might not take long for her to have a new name.

Shiloh joined her siblings to remove Pitts’ surname from their names, ending ties with the family legacy of the actor. Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, 15, also reportedly stopped using her father’s name, which came to light after the Playbill for the new musical The Outsiders listed her name as Vivienne Jolie. Their eldest daughter, Zahara, also previously introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie. Reportedly, Maddox has also stopped using his father’s surname. But Shiloh is the first of the six to do it legally.

Jolie’s lawyer announced the divorce on September 20, 2016, marking the end of ‘Brangelina’— a term fans lovingly used for them during their relationship. In 2017, amid the legal battle, Pitt gave his honest version of his side of the narrative while speaking with GQ.

I’m personally very retarded when it comes to taking inventory of my emotions. I’m much better at covering up. I grew up with a Father-knows-best/war mentality—the father is all-powerful, super strong—instead of really knowing the man and his own self-doubt and struggles. And it’s hit me smack in the face with our divorce: I gotta be more. I gotta be more for them. I have to show them. And I haven’t been great at it.

Pitt, 60, is now all set to appear in Jon Watts’ thriller Wolfs starring alongside his Ocean’s Eleven, Burn After Reading, and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind co-star George Clooney.

Wolfs will hit the theatres on 20 September 2024.
