Batman has gained quite a reputation over the years. His wits and strengths in strategy have made him one of the most powerful characters in the entire DC Universe. However, he has also become a beloved character for another reason; his charism and suaveté. He is known for being quite sarcastic in some very inappropriate situations, and his intelligence has caused him to be deservingly arrogant.

While there are a lot of examples of his dry humor in the DC live-action films or Zack Snyder’s take on the character, the DC Animated Universe just knows how to successfully execute this part of his character. One of the best examples of this personality trait happens to be a scene from 2017’s Justice League Dark.

Death Doesn’t Stand a Chance Against the Batman

Justice League Dark is iconic in the DCAU for many reasons. The film brings about a culmination of some iconic characters and those who deserve more attention. Led front and center by Matt Ryan’s John Constantine and Jason O’Mara’s Batman, the film has a rating of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes for good reason. There is one specific scene that perfectly encapsulates the essence of the film, and The Heroic Archive recently shared the clip on Instagram.

At one point in the film, the heroes encounter shrouds—dark spirits that deliver damned souls to hell when the time is right. Naturally, they are all attracted to Batman, crowding around him. One of them begins to speak, accusing the Bat of evading them several times. Knowing that the Caped Crusader has cheated death in the past is not surprising considering his lifestyle and the luck he somehow has.

The Bat simply stands there and waits for the shroud to finish talking. He then suddenly moves his head forward and says, ‘Boo!’ What is interesting is that the creature suddenly flinches, startled by his indifference to their presence.

Batman Continues to Impress Fans

In the comments of the post, fans were simply marveling at how badass Batman is. Some joked that the ‘Boo’ that he did was very uncharacteristic of him, being more like Bruce Wayne’s personality than the Bat’s. Others pointed out how a human being able to make a symbol of death and a creature of Hell flinch is another kind of flex.

There is an important plot in the comics where Batman is forbidden to learn magic out of fear of becoming too powerful. One fan pointed out that this scene could be shown as the perfect example of how he could simply become unstoppable if he became any more powerful.

“Making death flinch is a hell of a flex.” said the_legendary_fng on Instagram.

“Istg that boo was batman letting bruce play for a moment” beepbiipboop added.

“Yall gotta remember there’s a reason he wasn’t allowed to know/use magic” stated kidkoz80.

“Had a near batman experience” mentioned zacharykelly833.

“he couldn’t see the reapers either when he did this” dariuskca_ went on to say.

Another fan played on the ‘near-death experience’ saying, joking that the shroud had a ‘near-Batman experience.’ It is also important to know that during this scene, the Bat was not even able to see the shroud as only people who know magic can see them. Still being able to be so unfazed only adds to his character.

Justice League Dark is available for purchase on AppleTV.
