The wait is finally over as Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s anticipated Barbie debuts a teaser trailer for the audience. Much like the tone of the movie, the teaser is done in a humorous way with many references to Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
With similar music, themes, unfamiliarity, and slow-motion shots, fans immediately drew parallels between the teaser for Barbie and Stanley Kubrick’s legendary classic.
Margot Robbie’s Barbie Is Similar To 2001: A Space Odyssey
Although the theme of both the movies and storyline differ in every way possible, the newly launched teaser of Barbie seemed to like Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey a little too much. The movie stars Margot Robbie in the lead role along with Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell. The recently dropped teaser has fans hyped up for the upcoming movie.

When apes breaking bones are replaced with children breaking dolls, you obtain what is now the teaser trailer for Barbie. Depicting a lore-ish storyline with its narration, the narrator introduces Margot Robbie as if she was a miracle in their world and stands tall like the monolith from Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Although intentional, the fans couldn’t help ‘but notice the similarities between the movies and drew parallels between them.

The teaser for Barbie is surely surprising to see as if it almost wants to break the fourth wall badly. The teaser further showed Margot Robbie’s image as Barbie along with Ryan Gosling who portrays the character of Ken the doll. The genre of the movie still remains in question since the humorous teaser showcases a comedic tone but Will Ferrell (one of the stars of the movie) stated that the movie is also a satire on the patriarchy and it slaps across the face of every misogynistic person out there.

During the time actor, Will Ferrell was busy with the promotion of Spirited, he was asked about the Barbie project. Ferrell had many things to say about the upcoming project, especially the message and the genre that they have been meaning to explore.
According to the actor himself, the movie is a slap on patriarchy and on women who criticize the doll but let little children play with them. Here’s what the veteran actor had to say about Barbie,
“It’s a loving homage to the brand and, at the same time, couldn’t be more satirical. Just an amazing comment on male patriarchy and women in society and why Barbie’s criticized and yet why every little girl still wants to play with Barbie. Boy, when I read it, I was like, ‘This is fantastic.’”
Directed by Greta Gerwig and with an impressive star cast of Margot Robbie, Will Ferrell, and Ryan Gosling, Barbie is set to screen in theaters when it releases on 21st July 2023.
