We have often encountered how prominent award shows often ban certain names from their events if something unlawful is done by them. The case of Will Smith from last year’s Oscars is a very big anecdote for this scenario. But the fans couldn’t digest it when the 2023 edition of the SAG awards invited Mark Wahlberg to present an award to the cast of the 2022 A24 Multiversal drama.

Everything Everywhere All At Once was a massive hit everywhere and mostly dominated each of the renowned award functions. It was nominated in five SAG awards out of which it won four. However, a major controversy arose as Mark Wahlberg was called to present the final award to the cast of the movie. This led to an internet fire as the netizens blasted the Screen Actors Guild for calling Mark Wahlberg to present such a reputed award.

The Father Stu star doesn’t hold a very clean image due to his controversial past. Mark Wahlberg was subjected to wide controversy after he presented the Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The fans reminded everyone of how the 52-year-old was convicted of violence against two Vietnamese-American men in the past.

Mark Wahlberg got his hands dirty at the very early age of 15 when he along with some of his friends threw rocks at some black people and hurled racial abuses. His list of misdeeds only increased as he went on to even serve jail time for assaulting two Vietnamese-American men at the age of 16. He beat one man with a stick while punching another one named Thanh Lam in the eye.

It was reported that Wahlberg was under the influence of PCP during the incident. The crimes led the Ted star to get sentenced to two years of jail out of which he served only 45 days. This incident also saw the Oscar nominee hurling racial slurs at the Asian men. Even though the star apologized for his past mistakes across many interviews, it didn’t cease the internet hate for him or SAG.

Many fans roped in the story of Will Smith and the Oscars and questioned the SAG about their decision to invite The Fighter star. It can’t be denied that Wahlberg also took part in several honorable movements like Black Lives Matter later to make amends but still, it doesn’t look enough for the fans to forgive him yet.
