Back in 1977, no one really knew who Robin Williams was. For the people, Williams was just a regular comedian who used to appear in some skits and jokes but this time, things were different.

A video shared on YouTube by Clown Jewels depicted the moment when Williams met veteran singer Frank Sinatra (44:47). Being a comedian, Williams’ joke was so funny that Sinatra couldn’t answer for a few minutes!

Oh, Mr. Sinatra! Can I just shake your hand? Oh! Marlene, sell my clothes, I’m going to heaven.

Said Robin Williams with a cowboy drawl while holding Frank Sinatra’s hand. He further continued,

Going into that depressive World War times, Spielberg was making progress with Schindler’s List but the movie was clearly taking a toll on him. During the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival (via IndieWire), Spielberg talked about Robin Williams.

Stating that Williams used to do stand-up comedy on the phone with him, the Jurassic Park director got sentimental while talking about Williams.

Robin knew what I was going through, and once a week, Robin would call me on schedule and he would do 15 minutes of stand-up on the phone. I would laugh hysterically, because I had to release so much.

He further continued,

The way Robin is on the telephone, he’d always hang up on the loudest, best laugh you’d give him. He’d never say goodbye, just hang up on the biggest laugh

As much as Williams used to make the world laugh, he suffered from substance abuse throughout his career. In August 2014, Robin Williams’ body was found in his California home and it was ruled as a suicide.

Widely known for his role as Professor John Keating in Dead Poets Society, Williams found immense fame and worldwide love for his role. The iconic 1989 film is available to rent on Apple TV+ in the U.S.
