Having faced Thanos in the Infinity Saga, the MCU heroes are gearing up for a multiversal war. This battle will unfold in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, which will introduce more Kang variants.

Even though Kang, the mastermind behind the Time Variance Authority (TVA), was first introduced in the Loki season one finale, a wild theory says that a Kang variant might have appeared a decade ago.

Despite being a normal man, Kang has become a time-traveling and multiversal threat. His advanced technology is so powerful that he could stand against the tough Mad Titan if he chose to do so.

Jonathan Majors‘ Kang has multiple variants, and as per a Reddit theory, one of them was already introduced in Iron Man 3. The theory proposes that Harley Keener from Iron Man 3 is a variant of Kang known as Iron Lad (adolescent version) in the comics.

Kang’s real name is Nathaniel Richards, and he’s linked to Reed Richards (his descendant). Fascinated by history, Richards discovers time travel technology—initially created by another potential ancestor, Victor Von Doom.

Kang the Conqueror’s older self, once saved the 16-year-old Nathaniel from bullies before it led to him being hospitalized for years. It proved to be a turning point in his life, transforming him into a villain.

The supervillain took his younger self on a time-travel journey to show him future battles and victories he would face. Witnessing it all, the young Nathaniel becomes horrified, so he takes himself back to the past with the time travel tech. There, he seeks the help of the Avengers, and that’s how he becomes Iron Lad.

Kang has variants with different roles across the MCU’s multiverse. Yet, not much is known about them and their roles in the MCU’s past Phases. This theory claims that it’s Iron Man 3 that quietly introduced Marvel’s first Kang variant.

Although Harley/Iron Lad showed no villainous signs, he might turn vengeful against the Avengers, blaming them for Tony Stark’s death. While the MCU often alters comic book histories, Harley’s story could align with Kang’s.

The theory also claims that Harley might be the Kang variant who’s unaware of what his actions have done across time and space. Or maybe after Avengers: Endgame, he retains his identity and uses his skills to become Iron Lad.
