Jonathan Majors’s Kang is currently the main antagonist of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but has turned out to be nothing but a huge disappointment so far. The character first made its debut in the Cinematic universe in the series, Loki. In the series, a variant of Kang, The One Who Remains, made its debut and informed Loki and Sylvie about the threats its variants possess against the multiverse. Although the character is killed just a few minutes later by Sylvie, Marvel left the end of season 1 on a cliffhanger as a statue of Kang is seen at the headquarters of the TVA.

Why did Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror turn out to be a huge disappointment?

Jonathan Majors did a splendid job in portraying the role of Kang the Conqueror in the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania movie. However, the writers kind of botched up with setting up the backstory for a character who is supposed to be the new big bad of the MCU. According to a lot of fans and critics, the writers kind of rushed through Kang the Conqueror’s backstory. The fans felt that the movie did not show enough of Kang’s backstory about why he was banished by the Council of Kangs.

The movie should have shown more of the ‘good‘ side of Kang and the reason for his crusade to establish himself as a better villain. The movie showed no such scenes and the fans just couldn’t understand why Kang was so pissed and hell-bent on getting revenge.

Youtuber Nerdstalgic opened up about his views of Kang the Conqueror

Youtuber Nerdstalgic opened up about how Jonathan Majors’ Kang failed to establish himself as a great villain in the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania movie. According to Nerdstalgic, Thanos was always portrayed as a strong character whom the Avengers may or may not be able to defeat when they clashed against the Titan supervillain. He said, “you need a narrative suspension of disbelief when these characters fight.” That is exactly what the MCU used with Thanos in the Avengers: Infinity War movie and it turned out to be a huge success.

However, Marvel took away this “suspension of disbelief” with Kang as he got killed in his very first appearance in the Loki series. Even that is still acceptable to some extent as The One Who Remains was not one of the worst variants of Kang. But, Kang the Conqueror, who was seen destroying whole worlds and realities in Janet Van Dyne’s vision got overpowered by “an army of super-intelligent ants“. This really does not fit the stature of Kang.

Even if that was not disappointing enough, Kang the Conqueror got punched into the multi-universal power core by Antman which leads to his defeat. Seriously, the character is supposed to be the next supervillain of the MCU, and is getting defeated in such a simple manner? What a disappointment.
