There was a time when every movie released under the banner of Marvel Cinematic Universe became a huge success at the box office. However, since the release of Avengers: Endgame, the MCU has somewhat struggled to replicate the same level of success, with the most recent example being The Marvels.
The Marvels was the sequel to the 2019 film Captain Marvel. Despite the movie tackling some extremely important plot points, it failed to perform well in the eyes of fans. On the other hand, films like Napoleon and Godzilla Minus One have emerged as huge successes at the box office.
Marvel Fans Are Frustrated With the Lack of Success of The Marvels
The Marvels was released in theaters on November 10, 2023. While fans had huge expectations from the flick, it certainly didn’t impress many. It’s evident from the fact that it currently has a 61% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.0/10 rating on IMDb.
On the other hand, as revealed via a tweet by Discussing Film, Godzilla Minus currently boasts a 100% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
‘GODZILLA MINUS ONE’ is currently at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 28 reviews.

Nowadays, gaining a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes is certainly a tough task for any movie, but so far, the new Godzilla movie is pulling that off. In comparison, Napoleon has been rated just 60% on Rotten Tomatoes.
On top of that, it has a terrible 59% audience rating on the website. Keeping that in mind, one Marvel fan (@MrNiceGuy513) was furious with the audience claiming that Napoleon is better than The Marvels.
One was deemed a success and one was labeled a flop.
I wonder why.

Many fans agreed with the Twitter user’s assessment, and here are some reactions posted below the original tweet.
The Marvels was great with amazing action camera work and incredible chemistry between the trio

One had the future of a franchise riding on it, the other didnt. Big difference

Most Marvel fans defended the latest flick of the franchise. They believe that despite the movie not receiving good reviews from critics, it was still a great movie.
But to be honest, as one fan mentioned, The Marvels had the future of the entire franchise riding on it. If we take that into consideration, then the Brie Larson starrer certainly could have been better.
Regardless of the fact that fans love the movie or hate it, they cannot deny that the post-credit scene did a great job of perfectly setting up the Multiverse Saga in the MCU. After all, it seemingly introduced Beast from the Fox Universe in the post-credit scene.
What’s Next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
The Marvels was the third movie in Phase 5 of the MCU after the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The studio is essentially in the middle of its current phase.
The next film to release under the banner of Marvel is none other than Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool 3. It is expected to hit the ground running for the studio and many are already expecting it to be the best movie of Phase 5.
After Deadpool 3, Phase 5 will conclude with the release of Captain America: Brave New World in 2025. Considering the future lineup of the MCU, there’s a chance that it will once again reach the heights that it was during the 2010s.
