Thanks to some set leaks, fans got to take a look at Giancarlo Esposito’s look in Brave New World and many of them came to the conclusion that he was playing Bushman, Moon Knight’s long-time rival, Bushman. However, an insider has apparently debunked the rumor, bringing fans back to square one.

At the Phoenix Fan Fusion, Giancarlo Esposito confirmed his involvement in the MCU and revealed that not only would he be making his debut with a film, but he would also go on to be a part of a series on Disney+.

He stated, (via Dexerto),

The MCU has knocked on my door and it’s a role you won’t predict. It will be teased and there will be a series afterwards.

The Hollywood Reporter later reported that Esposito will be playing a villain in Captain America: Brave New World. And when photos from the set of the upcoming film were leaked, fans were convinced that the actor was going to play Bushman in the film.

It does kind of make sense since Esposito has already stated that the character would go on to be a part of a Disney+ series and Moon Knight season one confirmed the character’s existence.

However, while Esposito as Bushman would be the perfect casting, it looks like there is an obstacle in the way; a Marvel Insider has supposedly debunked the rumor.

This also makes sense as during his appearance at the CCXP Mexico, the Breaking Bad actor said that his MCU character would be “original, and new, and fresh” (via GameSpot). Honestly, we don’t know what to believe and/or expect anymore!

Bushman is a Brutal Marvel Villain

In the colorful tapestry of Marvel Comics villains, Raul Bushman stands out thanks to his unhinged personality, madness, and ruthlessness. He crossed paths with Marc Spector a.k.a. and soon began their iconic rivalry. Anyone who has read the comics will recall Bushman being Moon Knight’s most brutal kill till today.

After Bushman planted a statue of Seth at the United Nations, he intended to possess it and use his influence to push the world toward World War III. However, his attempts were ruined by Moon Knight who was guided by Khonshu. After an intense battle between the long-time rivals, Moon Knight killed off Bushman but not before taking the sharp end of the Crescent Dart to carve the villain’s face off. Later, Bushman was resurrected by criminal overlord The Hood who used Dormammu’s powers to do so.

As for his powers, while Bushman does not possess any superhuman abilities he is an expert in guerrilla warfare, is skilled in using conventional firearms, and has peak physical strength. Bushman also likes to use metal teeth that give him an indubitable advantage during close physical combats.

Should Bushman come to the MCU, he would be a great addition to the myriads of villains who have made it to the superhero universe. Honestly, Esposito would have been the perfect person to bring the character to life but it looks like that won’t be happening, right?

Captain America: Brave New World will be released in theatres on February 14, 2025.
