Ghost Rider’s Nicolas Cage Wants To Play DC Villain Spectre

Nicolas Cage’s debut as Ghost Rider in the MCU has been a hot topic for quite some time, but there is still no confirmation of this. The actor has previously expressed interest in reprising the role, but it seems that there is no update on the project at the moment.

So, to satiate the fan’s curiosity, Cage responded via Reddit:

Ohh! Yeah! Jim Corrigan, the Spectre (old DC comic character). That would be a fun one. But that’s a hard one to pull off because he’s virtually invincible, he has no weakness. You need characters that have a kryptonite, that have a flaw, but he’s kinda unbeatable. But that would be a fun one.”

Nicolas Cage previously portrayed Marvel’s Ghost Rider, also known as Johnny Blaze, both in Ghost Rider (2007) and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2012). The Devil’s Bounty Hunter is a memorable character for Cage, who is a huge comic book nerd, as it helped him find his ground in the superhero genre. When asked what he thought about the idea of returning to the role, he told Comic Book:

Ghost Rider is an amazing character. I mean, he’s a complicated character. It’s kind of like, how do you tell the story of Faust within the context of that universe? Because it’s a very philosophical character. I think it makes him special from other superheroes.”

While Ghost Rider’s MCU debut is still in progress, Cage’s willingness to play Spectre brought delight to fans. Many positively reacted to it and are already campaigning to get James Gunn on the phone. Others found assurance in how iconic Cage played Ghost Rider that he would make an outstanding performance as the DC anti-hero.

Meanwhile, Nicolas Cage’s upcoming film Renfield will hit cinemas on April 14, 2023.
