Ever since Brie Larson arrived in the MCU, “higher, further, faster” has been the running theme of the franchise moving forward. With Phase Four already behind us, the next team-up film, The Marvels is fast approaching with Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau joining arms to take down whatever evil comes their way. But even as the audience has gotten to witness only the bare minimum of these heroes’ powers, MCU is already gearing up for the future of the trio in the Multiverse Saga.

The Marvels Director Reportedly Off the Avengers List

For the foreseeable future, the only event that has racked up the most attention for the fandom is the culmination of the Multiverse Saga: Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. As far as topping Thanos is concerned, Marvel has done right by its fandom. However, with that responsibility also comes the necessity to find a creative head who will headline the two Avengers projects with as much gusto as is deserving of a film of such magnitude and the expectations of the fans that come attached to it.

Originally, the Russo brothers were in talks to helm the projects given their knowledge and know-how of the Secret Wars comics. However, the pair exited the franchise after Endgame, and Kevin Feige has been on the search for a new headliner. In a new report by The Ankler’s Jeff Sneider, The Marvels director, Nia DaCosta was in the running for the post but the studio has been less favorable to DaCosta’s approach after rumors indicate The Marvels is going for a more anime-based stylistic approach than what the audience is usually familiar with.

So far, no new names have come up in Feige’s roster and the search still goes on.

The Marvels Sets Up an All-New Power Hierarchy in the MCU

The power dynamic that currently exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one that primarily rests on the broad shoulders of Captain America, Thor, and Spider-Man. These heroes have become the unofficial spokesperson for the MCU and stand as edifices that represent the franchise more than any other hero could. But a new power structure is rising on the horizon and with Carol Danvers now back on Earth (as witnessed in Ms. Marvel’s post-credits cameo), the hierarchy at Marvel will soon undergo some restructuring.

Although Marvel has kept the plot and production of the film tightly under wraps, director Nia DaCosta is hard at work assembling the narrative. The Marvels, for the first time in live-action, will witness the trio of superheroes: Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau banding together on screen. The audience has already received a well-formulated introduction to the former two. Teyonah Parris’ Rambeau, on the other hand, only found a short window to work with in the Phase Four Disney+ series, WandaVision.

Apart from the trio, South Korean actor Park Seo-joon is coming onboard the MCU vehicle as Yan D’Aladna. It is reported that Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury might make an appearance too.

The Marvels will premiere on 10 November 2023.
