As you’d expect from a hero shooter, the characters in Marvel Rivals have different roles and abilities in battle. With the beta underway, players have begun to notice the strengths and weaknesses of the characters. And a meta might be forming. Here are five characters who have stood out as the best in the Marvel Rivals beta.

5. Venom

Venom is currently one of the best Vanguard heroes. This is because he is incredibly tanky while also dealing impressive damage. His Dark Predation attack uses symbiote tentacles to deal damage, while Symbiotic Resilience grants him bonus health as his HP decreases.

His ultimate, Feast of the Abyss, transforms him into a pile of goo that devours enemies, granting him additional health. He also has incredible mobility in fights since he can crawl on walls and do a ground slam with Frenzied Arrival which also gives him crowd control (cc). While he is a little hard to learn, it is well worth it because he is a certified beast.

4. Luna Snow

Luna Snow is a top-tier Strategist and Support with her healing and buffing abilities. Her abilities reflect her K-pop persona, combining style with substance. Her Ice Arts ability allows her to damage enemies and heal allies at the same time.

Her ultimate, Fate of the Both Worlds, creates an area of effect (AoE) where she can either heal teammates or buff their damage. The combination of healing, damage, and strategic support makes her a valuable pick for any kind of team.

3. Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange is also another Vanguard hero who stands out, albeit for a different reason than Venom. His abilities like the Daggers of Denak and the Shield of the Seraphim allow him to damage enemies and protect teammates at the same time.

His ultimate, Eye of Agamotto, stuns all enemies in an AoE and separates their souls from their bodies. This allows his team to make follow-up combos with their own abilities to completely take over a fight. Much like the lore that he has, Dr. Strange changes the tide of any battle he is a part of.

2. Hela

Hela is a strong duelist that works best in mid to long-range combat. Her abilities require precision, but she does a lot of damage to groups of enemies if used right. Her Nightsword Thorn and Piercing Night abilities let her do damage from range. While her other abilities like Soul Drainer and Astral Flock give her decent crowd control and mobility.

Her ultimate ability, Goddess of Death, teleports her into the air to rain down damage with Nastrond Crows. Hela’s playstyle requires careful aim and positioning to maximize her damage output, making her a high-risk, high-reward character.

1. Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch is the primary pick for a lot of Marvel Rivals players for the title of ‘best’. Like Hela, she is also a duelist, but with a different twist and a more mid-ranged fighting style. She launches rapid-fire magic bullets, controls chaos energy, and even creates forcefields to stun enemies.

Her primary attack, Chaos Control, gives her rapid-fire magic bullets that damage enemies and restore her Chaos Energy. This energy fuels her other abilities.  Despite her low health pool, her ability to fly and dive in and out of fights gives her the ultimate flexibility in fights.

NetEase has really brought Marvel’s cast of characters into a setting that players are enjoying. And these characters are the current best picks in the beta. With more updates, the meta will most likely shift to different characters. With a projected release in 2025, Marvel Rivals continues to have great promise.
