Dave Bautista, a former WWE athlete and currently a Hollywood actor stated that he does not want his role in the MCU to be his legacy. Bautista has previously spoken on a number of occasions about his age catching up to him and the extensive makeup process for his character, Drax.

Dave Bautista in a tweet on Twitter also mentioned his departure from MCU, confirming that he was intending on leaving the character behind for someone new to take over the role. He desires to take on more dramatic roles. In an interview with GQ magazine, he said,

I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him. But there’s a relief [that it’s over], It wasn’t all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy — it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff“.

As many speculate that Dave Bautista is going to be the next Rock, Bautista clearly proclaims that he does not want to be, “The Next Rock”, he just wants the experience and wishes to be a better actor, a respected actor.

Dave Bautista will reprise his role as Drax the Destroyer after his upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Bautista has played this role for MCU for nearly 10 years and appearing in a total of 6 times over the years. And now he calls time on his role in an interview with GQ magazine,

“I’m going to be 54 years old by the time Guardians 3 comes out, and the shirtless thing is getting harder and harder for me… the journey has come full circle and I’m just ready to kind of step aside and wrap it up.”

Though he will be leaving MCU after his next movie, Bautista has multiple roles in movies lined up, one of the upcoming being portrayed as the antagonist of M. Night Shyamalan’s horror thriller Knock at the Cabin. He also added that it was a lot of pressure while shooting the MCU movies as they took the shot with only one camera and had no luxury to edit the clips.

“It’s by far the most I’ve ever spoken in a film,” he says. “Just huge pages of monologues. We were shooting on film, which is very expensive. And we were shooting with one camera, so you don’t have the luxury of edits. It’s your only opportunity—you need a perfect take. It’s a lot of pressure.”

Dave Bautista’s Role in MCU

Drax, also known as Drax the Destroyer played by Dave Bautista in the MCU franchise. He is a warrior and a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy who seeks revenge on Thanos and his subordinate Ronan the Accuser for killing his family when they invaded his homeworld.

Drax’s first appearance with the Guardians was when they encounter Drax in a prison, where he was held. After knowing that Gamora is Thanos’s daughter he attacks her and StarLord has to stop him whilst striking a deal to lure out Thanos with Gamora as bait. Later, Drax along with the other Guardians manages to kill Ronan the Accuser with the help of the Power Stone.

After this event, the Guardians of the Galaxy crash-land on a planet only to find Peter Quill or Star Lords’ father Ego. Only Drax, Gamora, and Peter Quill go to Ego’s planet while the others stay behind. There they meet Mantis, who will be a Guardian later on as Drax develops a friendship though he finds her hideous.

While Ego reveals his true self, Drax joins the fight against Ego until Quill puts a jetpack on him and Mantis away. As the planet was on the verge of being destroyed as its root, Ego was dead he was saved by his teammates on the verge of the destroyed planet.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2023.
